I do love tanzanite and wish I had bought more years ago. I have a few good pieces but not the dark lovely shades. And you have to remember that there are buyers that bought as much of the rough as they could, back in the day and sold alot to many vendors and am sure that is where most ,if not all, have the triple A grade to sell now. I was so tempted to get that gorgeous bracelet--had to really hold myself back. I think tanzanite was discovered in 1967.

I like this color of Tanzanite. It's unmistakably Tanzanite and not any other gemstone. Darker ones look like blue sapphire from afar. This is not that.

I heard Moseley say the mine is still producing some but in the lighter hues.

Even if the mines are closed there are dealers/collectors  (don't know the correct term) who have hung onto "parcels" and evenetually release them for sale.  Peyton Kelly has talked about this.

Years ago I bought a tanzanite ring that Rick was selling. It is set in yellow gold. On the TV, the 3 stones were that deep rich purple/blue color. The ring I got is very pale blue. I should have returned it. Very disappointing purchase.

I am not an expert on the mining of Tanzanite, but I do know it is a rarer stone. Especially if you like the darker shades like myself. My granddaughter and I love Tanzanite, and outside of QVC it is so hard to find!!  I have looked at Zales , Kay's, Jason's, whitefields, ross, and many other major stores.  They just don't have much, if any tanzanite! Or it's the light, pale , or bluish colors. I think QVC has the best selection in rings and in larger sized  stones in Tanzanite. Jmho. Last year QVC didn't seem to have much Tanzanite at all, especially rings.  Just rings they had forever. This year seems like they got a good shipment in rings, bracelets nd necklaces!

I do seem to love the  JEFF  Mosley pieces.  my favorite pieces were from Judith Ripka.   I have several pieces from her Tanzanite, and they are the most comment on stones I wear.  Except for my 58 year old 5 carat Aquamarine.  You CNT even find the color of my old Aquamarine anymore either!   Mainly lighter blue, to almost clear

They did the same thing with Sleeping Beauty Turquoise.  The mines were closed ... BUT .... a few people had bought up huge batches of stones just before that happened and have been "hoarding" it, letting a little out now and then. 

Most of the SBT is probably little stones, with very few big stones left for substantial pieces, like a ring or necklace center stone.

(Didn't they do the same thing with diamonds, to keep the prices up?)

Anyway, the color of the current tanzanite showings looks very light ... and substandard.  Not the best stuff.
