Re: *** Suggestions and concerns about the moderation of QVC Community forums ***

Thanks, kittymom, NC, and golfcartrider.Smile

I do hope we can continue the thread with everyone's opinions. It's a great way to learn, in my view, seeing all the sides of an issue.

Unfortunately, the sarcasm (the word means "to cut or tear flesh," btw) and attempts to make personal jabs seem to show up on even the most innocuous thread. I don't know the reason, although sometimes it looks very much like a control issue and an attempt to damage a thread and have it removed. In this case, it appears to be only one poster so I hope Webbie will take note. They seem to be trying to remove offensive posts and allow the threads to remain, so we shall see.

Best thing to do, probably, is to ignore the attempts to disrupt and try to keep a civil discussion going.

I have no doubt the moderator will decide what's appropriate and what isn't. We have no control.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Re: *** Suggestions and concerns about the moderation of QVC Community forums ***

I really don't see the need to start this conversation again. When they first announced changes, posters spent days commenting on the poll and ramifications of it. Since then those posts have died down. The only thing different I see is that some posters who used to have a reputation of arguing just for the sake of arguing, are on best behavior now and actually being called nice. That did not happen before. It may or may not last.

My only irksome thing is that if and when a moderator chooses to delete a certain post, or even the whole thread, I think they should inform ALL the posters why they did that. I am sure posters who have had their entire post deleted (and perhaps they didn't feel it was in any way abusing the standards) would be interested, as would others who either responded or started the thread, as to what exactly the reason for the deletion.

As an example, a long time ago I had a thread deleted, I then went back and started another one, just asking what happened. Well, posters came on that and tore me up saying it is against policy to re-start a deleted thread. But I did not restart the thread or the contents of its discussion, only asked what happened. Now yesterday, and several time before that, I have noticed posters starting threads and asking why their original one went poof. But they then included the contents of the original thread and no one reported them. I think, and always, have that some posters have privileges others don't, perhaps their high post count, or perhaps because they have many "allies" on the boards, don't know, but IMO, I do not see equity on these boards at all.

So with all that said, I'm not sure what your purpose is for this new thread even though I took the opportunity to opine.

ETA: I was typing this out and did not see post #29 stating the same thing about equity

Re: *** Suggestions and concerns about the moderation of QVC Community forums ***

I do appreciate what the OP is saying, however, it seems to me that QVC already asked the members of the community what they wanted through the survey.

I assume then, that these changes were made based on the answers given. so basically, we are getting what most of us asked for.

Also, though I do enjoy these forums very much, I feel there is just too much fuss for a shopping channel board.

I remember when I first started posting here and I, too, was jumped on for asking questions about a certain product (I don't dare name that product, lest they might come in here and....., well, you know). I wasn't mean or nasty to the vendor or the product, but people still got so mad about it. Even went so far as to follow my posting history. Strangest thing.

Anyway, I try to avoid them, so don't know if they've calmed down or not. Sorry you got jumped, too. If the rules that were instated really did help, I think I may have missed it.

Re: *** Suggestions and concerns about the moderation of QVC Community forums ***

I'll add what I said in a few of the other threads on this topic: I think the survey was a failure, and here's the reason. It wasn't announced in a way for most who read and post here to be aware of it and respond to it. As a result, it represented a small number of people. I was a statistician for a large medical complex for years, and I might've been given the boot for offering a poll to such a small sampling.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

In my opinion, it should have been prominently posted at the top of every forum so everyone could've seen it and taken part, voiced their views. Yes, it's water under the bridge now but I still think it should be scrapped and redone properly.

This is one reason I think it's still a topic worth discussion, but I respect and understand those who disagree.

Re: *** Suggestions and concerns about the moderation of QVC Community forums ***

I would like to say that I support QVC's moderation of their bulletin boards and commend them for changing it into a positive, upbeat, pleasant, and, quite informative hang out on the internet.

For anyone who complains about personal jabs against them or others or tone or misconstrued words, I fully understand. I've run websites, I've had forums, I've got one now, in fact. You, who are easily offended, really have to grasp that you are not personally your comment--your comments are what you are trying to communicate to others and people "read" things differently based on the reader(s)' own personal interpretation.

Live lightly, don't take each word as a personal jab. Step back and refuse to see the boogeyman in each and every word. Those who do really end up being the ones who look very silly, in some aspects, because they "see" something which is not there and end up losing the meaning of the comment or reply.

Sure there are unpleasant people on the internet. But there is no reason to create them so you can make yourself a victim.

I've seen it all, just about. Believe me.

Every single person who is able to post on these boards is more than lucky. If you don't know that, then imagine them not here.

Then go out into the real world where the boards allow a free-for-all. That is why you are very lucky, safe, and this is a cake walk. Embrace it. Relax. The world news is enough to keep you grateful you have this as a sort of oasis.

Re: *** Suggestions and concerns about the moderation of QVC Community forums ***

Hi dooB

I dont really have anything to suggest except for maybe a whole new moderation co. I have been on alot of message boards and I have never seen one run so poorly as this one. I have totally lost interest in this place because of it and only stop in once in awhile any more.

I hope all is well with you...

This goes to what I said about being treated equal, why should things like this be allowed? Why should one person be able to change the direction of any ones thread?

Re: *** Suggestions and concerns about the moderation of QVC Community forums ***

I just saw the other thread and now understand why you started this one. But, in all honesty OP, you are actually doing something that does violate the standards. You got upset that another poster that you like was banned for a day so you took the "meat" of that thread and brought it over here to find out how others feel. Really, I know you have lots of support on the BB and I have none, but the poster in question is just as opinionated as I am and she gets lots of people to support her. Which kind of in the end, justifies my position in saying there is no equity on these boards.

They announced changes awhile ago, but now you want more discussion on it because your friend got temporarily banned?
