St. Patrick's Day just may be a little overrated by the shopping channels. I went shopping at a local mall today...and was the ONLY person wearing green.   (Just a thought, di)

@Desertdi Overrated?  I would say underrated by the shopping channels.  I went out to dinner early this evening and the restaurant was packed.  Driving by other restaurants and bars, their parking lots were packed.  St. Patrick's Day was all over FB and X today.  TCM is airing The Quiet Man this evening at 10:30 PM.  As far as the Irish merchandise goes on the Q, everything has gone up in price, and may be more limited than in the past.  But that's true with a lot of things nowadays.

Let's not let this holiday go by the wayside and forgotten.

I agree it was pretty boring today.  I watched both channels all day and got so tired of seeing the sweaters over and over.  I own more than 12 sweaters and don't need another.  I really  miss the Belleek and the linens and all the other items too.  And what happened to Waterford?

@luvmybeetle     SHOPHQ is selling Waterford, but it may not be their "top of the line"

@walkingal     I think a lot depends on WHERE you live.    Yes, Phoenix has a number of Irish pubs.....but in the Southwest, Cinco de Mayo is more celebrated.     di

I always enjoyed watching the variety of Irish goods that were presented in the past years, but I think it may be that people aren't buying "collectibles" like Belleek and Waterford as much as in the past.

Not only are the prices sometimes prohibitive, but it seems like the older buyers are downsizing such items, and the younger buyers just don't collect things as much as their parents did.

Yep! I used to buy the Inis. I still do but not from QVC. I pretty much only shop on QVC on St. Patrick’s Day, and while I still enjoy it, it’s a far cry from what it used to be. You could enjoy the show all day and feel like you did something for the day. I miss the old days.

Re: St Patrick's Day programming

I do not think that that QVC should provide my main "escape to Ireland."  It is a nice attempt to involve people in the celebration, and feature their partner guests from Ireland.  However, the bottom line is profit.

I do not really wear wool, so the sweaters are a pass-by.  The jewelry is expensive, but those are Irish prices, where gold workmanship is very costly.  Many pieces in Ireland are set in 9 karat!

I think QVC has gone out of their way over many years to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Yes, there are many Latino, and Asian, and African American shoppers, and QVC never really features products that celebrate those cultures and their holidays.

I would have been happy to see QVC sell gold dragons for Lunar New Year--I turn in to Shop HQ for those. (Much more collectible and valuable than Belleek.)  Shop HQ has carried Waterford for ages, and I bought many great pieces at super prices.

I did watch the Riverdance show that was on PBS tonight--always a treat!

I do not lament the past, but rather, try to enjoy the present!

Not a Merino wool fan ever. They certainly are beautifully made but I would die in that heavy fabric.

There is one I'm seeing now in a gorgeous sand color that's a bit tempting but too bulky.

Re: St Patrick's Day programming

I miss so many " old days "on QVC...it's not what it used to be. Life chances , prices go up, the hosts are not what they used to be either ...... now we habe have, QVC main channel, QVC 2 and so many programs within QVC who has the time. It used to be so simple...Return fees are high . One has to be ver.y selective what to purchase. The quality of their clothing is still excellent at least in my experience. I buy much less.

Re: St Patrick's Day programming

I don't have an Irish bone in me, but I loved the 24/7 Irish shows. I guess they've fallen out of fashion for whatever audience QVC is either cultivating or feel they have now. I too have some jewelry pieces I bought then. BF and I still have our twin Solvar Silver Claddagh band rings, wearing mine today.

I have some Connamara marble bracelets. I have several beautiful Beleek pieces I still put out, and use, not just on St. Paddy's Day.

I have 4 of the Aran sweaters that are my favorites...beautiful, lasting quality.

There was a Connamara marble heart necklace that tempted me yesterday, but I held back...lol...maybe that says a lot as far as QVC running all day St. Paddy's shows. I just have so much jewelry, I'm trying not to add more lately...but it was very pretty, and I love heart motifs.

Anyway, we're on vacation, so I wasn't home to watch QVC, but checked online later to see if they had any shows...not sure there was more than the one I happened upon.

Back in the day they really did it up....bring in all the vendors from Ireland, and even have live music.
