open up the icon, put your spoiler in there, and you will have your spoiler posted and hidden.

this is your spoiler.....if someone clicks on it they will be able to see what is in the spoiler box.

I've clicked on several spoilers and nothing comes up. Thank you for the info.

If you mean you've clicked on others' spoilers and nothing comes up, it's probably because many people click the wrong icon and don't put anything inside the "spoiler". It looks like the emoji icon and people confuse it for that. If you don't type anything inside it, it won't show anything.

Also, I don't think everyone checks their own posts after they're done and don't even realize they've mistakenly used the spoiler.

It's not anything you're doing wrong. The person posting has control of the spoiler option.
