@geegerbee

They knew it was thier last day, you can be sure.

Severance packages have to be budgetted, and I bet there may even have been volunteers who WANTED to be severed, with a nice package, so they could retire or move on to something else...

Yes they wrote sappy goodbye notes on thier personal social media pages....even if they DID go voluntarily or accept a package, it's still melancholy for most people to leave a job after years and years..

Heck...I retired voluntarily after 33 years, and I wanted to and was ready, but I felt bad the day it arrived....then I got over it!

And I bet they were told NOT to mention thier pending status on the air.

If customers go nuts AFTER they left, imagine how distracting and possible off-putting to customers who may not buy it they heard it on the air.

RE: Shannon Smith....in retrospect, I thought she was hyper giddy on her recent shows...maybe she was GLAD she was leaving and couldn't wait to get on with the next phase.

Just my opinion. Anyway....reductions in force happen EVERY DAY in this country, and most people know its coming.ESPECIALLY if you're in sales.

And some people hang on hoping for a "package".

And lagging sales certainly are not a surprise. ALL the big retailers have reported thier earnings and projections for next quarters, this past week. Many are struggling. Many are forecasting LESS sales revenue instead of more.

You can bet that topic was #1 in EVERY meeting with every employee for at least the last year.

And just take a look at Qurate's stock ( Ticker QRTEA). It's abominable. I just hope the hosts had diversified accounts in thier 401K and didn't keep all thier stock holdings in Qurate.

Employee labor cost is what drives these decisions.

That's why the oldest usually go first.

They'll all be fine. Bet we even see some of them on infomericials in the future, or, come back as representatives for other vendors. MANY seem to have done that.!!

Yes,they could have offered a Buy out instead of a severance package. They could have said due to downsizing, these hosts won't be back. Show some of their bloopers, relatives appearances, even her dogs, or his wife and a cake. They did that for others, not just a "today is your last day---tough beans." They didn't even get a chance to say goodbye to their customers who adored them. Had to find out on Facebook. Boo hiss. And no, I don't think they knew it was coming. Carolyn said she would be on on Sunday. And Dan wrote his and Pat's name on a Sunday Morning mug .

Being laid off, fired due to company restructuring or whatever you want to call it isn't such a bad thing. I got laid off from my last job in 2014. I knew it was coming just not when. Our entire department was eliminated and if one chose they could move to Atlanta for a two year gig. I chose the layoff and could not be happier. The company sucked, the people were nothing but drama, drama drama every day, the drive was getting worse every day and the work mind numbing. I simply was hanging on for the severance which I would not give them the satisfaction of quitting and losing. Given these two ages I'm sure they saved a lot, got a good severance package and will be fine. I don't think either of them live a lifestyle beyond their means.  There is more to life than some cra**y job.

Financially I'm sure they will be fine.  I'm just sad that Carolyn will no longer be doing Denim & Co.  I enjoyed her on air personality very much.

@haddon9    The sad part for me is that Carolyn put her whole heart and soul into her job and suddenly, apparently in minutes, she was out the door.  We see other hosts who don't give a flip and are obviously just there for a paycheck with minimal effort and that makes it seem so unfair.

However, I'm sure Carolyn and Dan were the only two hosts eligible by age and tenure for retirement so they were likely offered and accepted a generous incentive, a common practuce.  They both have other interests and, once the shock wears off, will be just fine.  Six months from now they'll wonder why they even cared.

@Kachina624 Agreed!  One of her newer projects was a bathing suit line for women who have had mastectomies through Denim & Co.

I was moved by the fact that they were going to offer this since Carolyn understood first hand the difficulty one goes through with something like this.  She had mentioned it just the day before and how she was excited about this new line launching in April.

Now sadly it won't be her project (maybe it was her idea?) but if it's already in the works it may still be offered.  Carolyn would have been the best host to present it.

Two ambitious hosts out the door. I really enjoyed Carolyn's enthusiasm, kindness and prepared presentations. Her voice was wonderful.

Customers are left watching too many loud hosts who are unprepared, can't put a sentence together, giggle thoughout the shows, interrupt other hosts or vendors, talk about themselves or their family rather than the item being shown, hide behind horrible big messy hair, and prefer to watch themselves in the camera than pay attention to the job! That's NOT professional sales.

There are several hosts who need to be shown the door immediately. They are there for the paycheck only.

Money screams; wealth whispers.

Re Caroline said "she's gonna be on on Sunday" and Dan's writing something on a mug...

Maybe they were trolling the PTB....getting the last laugh in a way that's ambiguous.

Get away with some subtlety while they can.

They'll be fine.

They're not as inclusive as they claim.
