Re: Since when do they close threads to comments?

I don't get it either. I think they would be better served to monitor the stupid reviews, many of whom don't even purchase the items.

Or it could be that the people that love to report found some little something that they did not like and poof it is closed. I would rather see closed for comment over deleted. To me it says that the moderator thinks the thread is OK but because of the "reporters" they have to do something so they close commenting.

A poster can only report a post; the moderators decide whether to close it or delete it. The only posts that I report are those that involve racist or similar type slurs. And believe, my reporting has not always resulted in their being poofed.

I personally don't really understand the reason for closing a thread. A closed thread is not usually okay but rather a somewhat contentious one. This can be frustrating to those involved in the thread because the last post, by default, is the last word on the subject.

IMO, either delete offending posts or an entire thread. I see no benefit for a closed thread to remain up.

I never looked at in the way of having the last word, interesting.

IMO that's not necessarily a bad thing. If people come along after the fact and take the time to read an entire thread, they can make up their own minds as to who was respectful and who wasn't, who was inflammatory and who was pot-stirring over minutiae for the heck of it.

The problem with seeing a closed thread as an accurate reflection of what transpired: in most cases, the moderator removes posts within the thread. They delete comments they deem to be inappropriate. So, the continuity is skewed and it's not always representative of what really happened or who might have been inflammatory or disruptive.

True and closing a thread but allowing it to remain exacerbates that problem as it does nothing but bait those who might want to add to a thread or to respond... More times than not, once a thread has been 'closed', as increasingly as that now seems to be happening... it probably makes more sense to simply delete it...
