Re: Since when do they close threads to comments?

Or it could be that the people that love to report found some little something that they did not like and poof it is closed. I would rather see closed for comment over deleted. To me it says that the moderator thinks the thread is OK but because of the "reporters" they have to do something so they close commenting.

A poster can only report a post; the moderators decide whether to close it or delete it. The only posts that I report are those that involve racist or similar type slurs. And believe, my reporting has not always resulted in their being poofed.

I personally don't really understand the reason for closing a thread. A closed thread is not usually okay but rather a somewhat contentious one. This can be frustrating to those involved in the thread because the last post, by default, is the last word on the subject.

IMO, either delete offending posts or an entire thread. I see no benefit for a closed thread to remain up.

IMO that's not necessarily a bad thing. If people come along after the fact and take the time to read an entire thread, they can make up their own minds as to who was respectful and who wasn't, who was inflammatory and who was pot-stirring over minutiae for the heck of it.

I'm just putting myself in the position of someone who might have been posting on a now-closed thread and imagining possible frustration at not being able to respond or in the position of someone just now reading the thread and wishing to reply.

I just don't see the benefits. Moonchilde posted that it might give people insight into who was respectful, who was just stirring the pot, and who was being inflammatory if they read the entire thread from start to finish.

That's true. But I think that the key is reading a thread from start to finish, regardless of whether it's active or closed. Too many people just read the OP or maybe just a few posts, something of which I'm occasionally guilty when a thread is more than a hundred or so posts. Smile

I am guilty of not reading entire threads when there are a lot of comments, I have also been a part of some closed comments not understanding why they were closed but who are we to question? We comment our thoughts and give our opinions, that is all we can do.

Re: Since when do they close threads to comments?

It's just plain stupid to stop comments but allow the post to remain. First, all posts must be removed that are negative about the hosts. Just now they stopped comment on a thread about WWC dancing. OMG, how terrible to write you don't like dancing.

When you invite the Q moderators to your board, most knew negatives about hosts would soon extend to vendors. Next it will extend to product. Next to the Q itself. Let the good times roll !

It is sad that there is so much we can't say and don't know what we can say. There is room for improvement and our comments about the hosts should be listened to not deleted.

Stopping comments on the butt jiggling thread was ridiculous as well as some others.

Re: Since when do they close threads to comments?

I just looked at the ""wiggles"" thread and the only obnoxious comments were the ones coming from the people that can't accept other peoples opinions. There was nothing ugly in any of the comments against the dancing but some of the other as I call them ""Do gooders"" comments were uncalled for. They could have found a better way to disagree.

The problem with seeing a closed thread as an accurate reflection of what transpired: in most cases, the moderator removes posts within the thread. They delete comments they deem to be inappropriate. So, the continuity is skewed and it's not always representative of what really happened or who might have been inflammatory or disruptive.
