It would be a smart move to get out while the gettings good and before all the inevitable changes happen.

@CalmHeart : Aren't retirement funds protected now ?

A lot depends on how those funds were organized and funded under state laws.

My employer cancelled the Defined Benefit plan but grandfathered current employees who started there in the 70s or before. Luckily, I was grandfathered but countless employees were left in the dust.

Then my employer decided to stop paying out on DB plans. Luckily, I was able to retire the summer before that took effect. The DB plans pays out 51% more than what they went to.

My employer also changed all kinds of benefits...health insurance premiums, salary increases, PTO, and a number of others. A union would have fought for us on these.

If true he has certainly earned his retirement. I would miss him though.

As others have stated, I won't believe it until I hear it from Rick himself.  Although I wouldn't be overly surprised.  Disappointed yes, because he's one of the few that still keeps me watching.  But not surprised.

But I would bet he wouldn't retire without having some other form of employment lined up first.

@geezerette  -  I so agree with you.  If he retires, he'll be back 2 weeks later working as a brand rep.  He may pull a Mary Beth and have more than one side job.

I don't see Rick not working in some capacity.
