I Posted a week or so ago, that I had to cut two packages out of my mailbox. I contacted them at the 800 number. I received a very nice letter from them today.
Says: I was concerned to learn of your dissatisfaction with the U.S. Postal service. Our mission is to serve the mailing public, we work hard to provide our customers with quality service.
I have spoken to both carriers, the one that was on the route and the new carrier that is now on your route, and ensured that they know the correct procedure for delivering parcels. I ensured that they know that the customer side of the box is smaller then the delivery side.
Please accept our sincere apology.
Thought I would share this with you, as a few of you were having the same problem. Contact your PO on the 800 number----not your local office. When I called local office they did nothing. Hope this helps some of you !

@BalletBabe The same thing has happened to me! I have a large oversized mail box. However, the mail person still tries to shove large boxes into my box. This has happened several times. They were shoved in so tight I couldn't get a hold on them to pull them out. I thought I'd go crazy trying to pry them out of the mailbox. Same thing with the plastic bags the clothes come in....You wouldn't believe how many they've shoved into the box! I've complained so many times I've lost count! I don't live far from the main terminal where the packages come from, so I know it well.
The 'boss' assured me each time he talked to the carrier (I live on 1 acre lots so the person drives their car), but the carrier seems to have trouble understanding or just doesn't care. I've had packages laying next to road/near my mailbox, crazy stuff.
My daughter lives on a main thorough fair in the city. Packages left out can easily get picked up. She has written notes, she even pays for a separate box (with a REAL number not a PO Box on it) and yet, it somehow get delivered and left on her step (don't ask me how).
I've been told by QVC I can't specifically request that they be sent there.
Anyway, I just wanted to say, I feel your pain. I live on a dead end street up a long driveway and actually had a huge box (it had a freaking fountain in it) stolen from my front porch. The answers from everyone I complained to were basically, "Gee! It stinks to be you".

Good to learn that your problem was solved.
When I was in the workforce, I would have my packages sent to my employer (with clearance, of course). The postal service would leave my packages outside my door and although I never missed one, it was unsettling.
Peace of mind means everything when you're expecting an order.

I have an oversized mailbox, but they seem to see this as a sign that anything can be shoved into it. Perhaps they can get it in, but it's hard for me to get these boxes out....not to mention the damage that can be done to the contents.
And another thing...I recently had to replace my mailbox...the door was broken and had already had the hardware replaced once. I think they balance heavy packages on the door before they push them inside. This is too much weight for the hardware.

Last week, I sent a USPS pkg "priority" to my cousin in FL. She never rec'd it. The tracking shows it was taken to her address, but "unable to deliver".
Have NO idea where this item is now...................

Our HOA recently replaced our cluster mailbox (the legs were rusted and thus close to falling over). The new mailbox has 2 slots at the bottom for packages that won't fit in the standard mailslot. When you have a package, the postal carrier puts the key in your slot so you can unlock the package slot.
Much better than cramming stuff into the standard slot and more secure than leaving it at your doorstep.

@Lynnster67 This is the type of mailboxes we have. The mailman was just too lazy to put it in the larger one.

When we get a package, the carrier (a contract carrier who drives his or her own car, since we're out on a county road) leaves the package at the front door -- without ringing the doorbell or knocking on the door. If there's mail that comes along with it, he or she might leave it at the door, or it might be left in the mailbox -- and there's no rhyme or reason to it. At least UPS rings the doorbell.

Since the alternative to leaving the packages is to have you pick them up at the post office, why not get a PO box and solve a myriad of problems? No ruined mailboxes, no stolen packages, no kids checking out your mail order prescriptions.

We should not have to pay for a PO box because the USPS doesn't train their mail carriers properly. Although I don't think it's a training issue as much as it is a laziness issue. And PO boxes are not cheap.
They would rather stuff it in the box than walk 15 steps to your door.
We are not permitted to have personal mail/packages delivered to our office. We have 1700 people in our building. There is no way our mail room can handle everyone's Amazon craziness, especially during the holidays.
