I must say I was bummed when Qurate purchased HSN. Not a good deal for them. Didn’t want HSN to be dragged down to the Q’s level. As others have stated HSN is better in every way compared to qvc. I spend so much more there than I ever have at qvc. Hopefully Qurate will sell off HSN and let them get back to their better status.
Once again with the May 5th release, it shows TPTB do not know what to do. Can’t feel sorry for a company that brings on their demise all by themselves.

So was I. I wanted HSN to continue to be it's own separate entity.

I was never in the camp of HSN being Q's poor little step sister. IF that ever was true, my my, look how things have changed.

HSN hosts still host with class sans annoying three ring circus acts.

Re: Qurate First Quarter Results: Highlights

This is a "Fashion Weekend" event.  From the little bit I have viewed, I can get a good understanding of the failing financial picture.  First of all, the hosts are entertainers, all self-involved, being cute, playing with hair, nattering and blathering in not-fit-for broadcasting voices, laughing, over-talking each other,  relating over and over family information-but alas, not much product information at all.  The products?  Pretty dismal pickings.  Prices?  Too high for the quality.  Oh, if you do order anything, be prepared to wait an eternity for it to arrive, even though you paid over-the-top shipping charges.  Returns?  Good luck if you want to return an item.  I hope you really are a patient person.   Even at that, sometimes I do order.  I never order though if I need an item by a certain date.  I never try to return an item any more.  I donate it if it doesn't suit me, or sadly, sometimes I just throw it away.  QVC is not a good place to shop anymore.

Re: Qurate First Quarter Results: Highlights

For me, they are getting close to pricing themselves out of my price ranges. That happened with Judith Ripka for me. I bought lots of it and then the prices went crazy and I stopped buying it. I don’t buy nearly as much now as I used to, due to several factors, including high prices for basic items that can be purchased for less from other retailers. The price of shoes is really shocking to me, especially since I have not seen the same level of price increases elsewhere. I have been getting more from Amazon this past year.

“In the first quarter, we saw meaningful improvement in revenue trends at our largest businesses, QVC US & QVC International, while performance remained soft at HSN, Cornerstone and Zulily.

Our customer file continues to be pressured and while we have multiple efforts underway to re-activate customer groups, we expect the impact of these initiatives to take several quarters.

Against this backdrop, we are intensely focused on factors in our control. We are on track with Project Athens and have taken significant cost actions with more underway.

We successfully managed towards higher average selling prices through price increases and an elevated merchandise strategy leveraging the improved freshness of our product assortment.

In addition, we enhanced programming and improved the performance of our daily specials by returning the urgency of a 24-hour sale,” said David Rawlinson, President and CEO of Qurate Retail.

Well, one thing I can agree with Mr. Rawlinson on, they sure raised prices.
