Oh yes, loved Woodies   which closed 1995

Loved to  buy lunch at Morton's.

 Garfinckel’s was another  beautiful store.

@skatting44  Oh yes, I just loved Woodies. I just bought and bought there. Clothes were just beautiful.

How sad to see them close.

Just yesterday, I saw a beautiful clock from there. I couldn't gift it b/c I loved it too much.

I hated to see all those lovely stores close. Glad you enjoyed Woodies, too, @skatting44 !

Saks announced eight store closures and fifty-seven closures of Saks Off 5th.

Eddie Bauer is in liquidation.

Sales in retail have declined everywhere.

Many young people prefer experiences over things.

Many older people have more things than they need.

Expansions are mainly going on for discount department stores.

I hope QVC can hang on!

@febe1 and @skatting44 - Woodies was my mom's favorite store, and she was thrilled when one opened near her.

I shopped there too some and loved it. They always had unusual things, and their restaurant was incredible!

I don't know a whole lot about bankruptcy, except for reading about the major stores and restaurants closing.  But I have to wonder if part of this is because QVC bought HSN.

What do you think?

@skatting44 @febe1 --Thanks for the memories from another Woodie's and Garfinckel's fan! It would be sad to see QVC follow in their path.

Retail sales were flat in December following a 0.6% increase in November. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had expected an increase of 0.4%.

The OP is correct.

QVCGA, the QVC Group's Series A Common Stock, closed yesterday at $3.74 per share, a drop of about 66% from its opening price.

Pre open trading this morning shows an additional price drop of approximately 10%-12%.

Wednesday 2/11 QVCGA closed at $3.41, down almost 9%

Did you know Ann Woodward, wife of William Woodward, was accused of murdering her husband in 1955?

She killed him in self defense.

Truman Capote had an unfinished book before he died claiming she murdered him.

Ann Woodward ingested cyanide.

Truman Capote did that movie with all of these women and they were friends until his book.

Lot of history to Woodies!!!

Unfortunately for a retailer,  vendors may start becoming reluctant to deliver inventory or take new orders.

I think this is why we see so many repitition in proucts being offered.

Maybe they should follow Talbot's  which has been having terrific sale prices starting before Christmas and still going !

Also why not cut back on so many Hosts  and having 2 on at a time ??? Is QVC paying salaries for Shawn 's podcast and that Busy lady ?
