Re: QVC'S Q-BALL DROP AT MIDNIGHT!!!!

@Spurt  None of the shopping channels was any better on New Year's Eve, nor, would I add, were any of the TV stations... Nasty here and even under more favorable weather conditions, who's going out these day, so I too was at home... Flipped through the channels numerous times looking for entertainment but sadly there was none to be had... The shopping channels must have literally tried to find tedious merchandise to feature and the ball drops, whoever was offering them, have come to seem rather dated... Add in the marginal 'talent' on offer from the networks and the endless references to how challenging things have been and the 'celebrations' were hardly, well, celebratory...

Have to say, I'd not consider myself a big fan of Katrina or of any of the hosts or shows these days, and while it's probably unfortunate she talked over the QVC ball drop, I personally can't see it being the ruination of the evening... I also do not resent at all the fact that Qurate has set aside her show to focus upon merchandise that might well be a cut above... I'm sorry, but I simply can't see the reason for any ire around this when the vast majority of shows clearly cut to the lowest common denominator... I don't think it's too much to expect a show or two being set aside for higher-end merchandise... That said, I do agree QVC pricing has gone stratospheric for some lines that really shouldn't be commanding the pricing they do, but that's a whole other issue, at least for me...  All that said, Katrina does a good job but I don't always find her tendency to over-enunciate pleasurable to watch... Then again, at least her speech is very clear and understandable, which is more than some can say...

Yep, ITA New Year's TV overall was indeed pretty dismal....and who would want to relive 2020 anyway...the daily repetitive doom and gloom is enough already...🙄..SMH!!!  And the other channels that supposedly offered "entertainment", personally I didn't find it very entertaining...No decent college football bowl game either...... So QVC's New Year's Eve celebration was pretty par for the course.....Woman Frustrated Personally 2020 made history in broadcasting the MOST BORING New Year's Even Programming EVER! 😴ZZZZZZ

@Spurt  It was dreadful, as were most of the Christmas 'specials'... I get the extraordinary circumstances, but really, this year was a total bust as far as holiday entertainment...

But STEVIE, Q's Set Design Dept worked so hard in setting up the Q's New Year's Eve ball drop and celebration.... I mean consider the time spent gluing all the Q's on that ball...and the purchase of the hats and 2021 glasses Alberti and Sandra wore... just "extensive"  creative time and effort spent on what Q's Management must have considered the "state of the art celebration"....and to have it fail must have been a huge disappointment to Mikey & Company....why I bet a whole paragraph in the 4th Quarter Financial results speech had to be eliminated.... (🤔🙄😏)

With the given circumstances a local station here did a pretty decent job broadcasting Christmas/New Year's celebrations and specials with no live crowds and the musical talent was decent too...

Re: QVC'S Q-BALL DROP AT MIDNIGHT!!!!

@Spurt  I somehow just can't get past concerts with no audience, sporting events with no fans, holiday celebrations with no people and all this Skyping and Zooming In nonsense (not just here but everywhere) is just unnecessary and annoying... I don't ever want to hear about a 'new normal, when there's nothing normal about it... We might well be having to adapt to a massive paradigm shift but I refuse to go gently into the night...

I wouldn't blame Katrina for the NYE fiasco.  For all we know, the problem could have been too much partying in the control room.

Yes, Katrina almost talking through the whole Ball Drop thing was dismal.  Just like the second rate seasonal lighting that David did -- where the control room missed it's cue to turn on the lights when David flipped the switch.  Sheesh......you had ONE job (as they say).  Sad and amateurish.

I HATE the term, "the new normal".....as you said certainly nothing NORMAL about it!!!

I heard a rather interesting discussion on how the lack of crowds at sporting events impacts the athletes ..... the fans actually "do matter" and get the player's adrenaline going at critcal times and key points in the game ....even the noise small crowds generate ....and Im sure its the same with musicians and their performance too.....

And I for one, working from home, will be totally pleased and delighted if I never hear the word "zoom meeting" again......why is it that just a once a week in person meeting was enough in the "good old days" but apparently daily zoom meetings dont seem to be enough now.....I think some of these Department Heads think of themselves as "celebrities" when they are hosting a Zoom meeting and can't get enough....Woman Frustrated

And as far as QVC, is all this vendor skyping really necessary.....cant the host demonstrate the product and talk about the merchandise....  There are some vendors that add nothing to the presentation....
