Q DID WHAT??? THE COMPETITION ........................

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery......

HSN's results were not so spectacular either......

Net sales for the third quarter were $569.7 million, a decrease of 3.5 percent from the prior year. That’s the second quarter in a row that revenue has dipped.

Revenue for apparel and accessories and wellness rose, offset by decreases in other product categories and in shipping revenues, the network reported on Monday.

A decrease in shipping revenue was primarily due to increased promotions and changes in the standard shipping rates, which became effective in August.

The average price point decreased 5 percent, largely due to an increase in clearance activity and changes in product mix. Units shipped increased 1 percent. Gross profit for the network decreased 7 percent to $190 million.

And how is HSN prepared to solve their woes.....why by taking a page right out of QVC's ideas.....Just like QVC hired Claire Watts, a former Walmart Exec (BTW she designed from QVC 2 few years ago) ....now HSN is hiring a former Wal Mart Exec, Carment Bauza who will come aboard November 28.......Here are all the gory details......

Well I hope it works out for HSN better than it did for QVC......

Are Evine's figures public?  Personally I've been buying more from them lately than from either of the other two.

Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing it @Spurt.  Personally because I watch less and less, I buy less and less.  Funny how that works isn't it?

how interesting that there are so many former Walmart execs on the market these days?  Wonder why that is?

I'm with @depglass - if it's jewelry, I look at evine and honestly even for some fashion items although that's pretty sparse for me.

I had to laugh when l read this: Their poor third quarter performance was partially blamed on "disruptive and distracting high-profile media events, particularly in August and September." And l love the flowery verbiage used to appease the shareholders.

@handygal2

As STEVIE said on another thread.....its amazing that stockholders buy these excuses.....I'm particularly disappointed in HSN because Ms. Grossman came from the retail world Nordstrom, and I expected better......HSN has relied on gimmicks like their movie tie-ins---That new Wizard of Oz movie, the Joy movie, and other television/movie partnerships that seemed to flop, they too show too much beauty and electronics, and their merchandise quality in a lot of cases has been nothing but cheap and chintzy......
