@katie1859, No I don't give credit card companies money by using their card. They give me money for using their card, and they reward me for it. They hand me an interest free loan. My only responsibility is to pay the full balance prior to the due date. Easy for me since I have always lived within my means. I've always have prioritized what purchases are needs verses wants.

Granted some get into trouble with credit card misuse. I understand your cautionary warnings. But people are solely responsible for how they use their money.

A credit card is a tool. There is nothing inherently wrong with a tool, just in how it's used.

I enjoy using just a few cards.  I pay my balances off each month.

There is an option at a few banks where you can click and split up your expense into 6 payments or so if they are very large only.

Where I draw the line is the "cash back feature"  Yes they are terrific.  But if they start charging 2.00 on a $50.00 hair salon transaction my "rewards" poof.  Nah...

I agree with EVERYTHING @Commoner Exec Mr Wilkes said…

We carry very little cash and use our cards for groceries, gas, dining out, shopping and misc and pay off monthly. No interest but instead increasing our cash back balance as we go.

Some auto cards even allow you to use your rewards balance towards your vehicle. My husband is getting all new tires for his pick up using some of the rewards he’s racked up. And the tire manufacturer currently has a deal where you buy 4 tires and get a rebate! How can you beat that! It’s a Win Win for sure!! 🤗🤗🤗

I just cancelled the Q Card, not only did the interest rate go up, but now they are charging for paper statements.  Not everyone uses a computer.  They really dont want you to be able to track a return credit.

I will use my Discover Card and get a paper statement to track my purchase history.  I hope I am not the only one who uses paper.

No, you're not the only one. I will be cancelling my Q Card as soon as I get my easy pays moved to a different card. Will be cancelling our Paypal card also as they too are with Synchrony and are also charging the $1.99 paper statement fee.

Just moved all my easy pays to a different card except a couple that are pending returns. Once those clear out I will cancel the Q Card.

Nobody cares about to be quite honest with you. Most of the country is not in your situation so have a little sympathy. I am actually somebody who paid off their Q card and shut it completely because I think it's a colossal rip off. However, there are a lot of people out there that need credit. And frankly can't afford to pay month-to-month. I don't look down on them for that. However, I think 34% interest is robbery. And I think the banks should be held accountable for that frankly.

I just opened a Q Card account a couple of weeks ago & the day after I made my first purchase which was a Denim & Co sweater, Synchrony called me to verify that purchase! They said they were checking to make sure it wasn't someone else using the card!  I was furious!  The first purchase!!!!   I just switched those easy payments to my debit card and took the Q card off my list of CCs on my account. I will be closing that Q Card account immediately.  Synchrony Bank is the worst.

@DesertD, I fail to understand your outrage. Why would you be furious? A credit card company was making a verification on an individual's first purchase. To me that was a cautionary thing to do...as a benefit to you in the event of identity theft. That should be an industry standard.

Re: Q Card Interest Rate

[ Edited ]

I have always appreciated a call or inquiry from the credit card bank about the veracity of a purchase!

They're doing their job and it's no hassle to say yes, that's me.  It's more important today than ever before.
