Most people around here don't really stress the "t" at the end and I couldn't tell you who does and doesn't and could not care less.  

But then we don't pronounce the "w" in "cwafee" either so yes, it's regional differences. And we are sophisticated like the French who often don't pay any lip service to the ending of words.  

But I wouldn't worry, people can't spell, don't understand that just because a word sounds alike doesn't mean it isn't spelled differently and have a different meaning.

Language is in flux.  "Couple of dogs" is now "couple dogs."  He forecast the weather for the week is "he forecasted the weather." 

I appreciate and love regional differences in speech and language as much as I appreciate foreign languages and think it is a wonderful thing.  

And how someone talks doesn't mean one darn thing about what kind of person they are!  Some uneducated people happen to be the smartest and sweetest people I know.

@Carmie, I agree. And what is worse than dropping the "T" is when people change it to a "D". ImporDant. Owww my ears!

There are a lot of words that I won't ever say, even though they seem to have been accepted because they sound wrong to my ears. For example, the entirely overused "woke" as an adjective, for crying out loud!

I lived in western PA and we talked a lot differently than the east part of the state.

Another thing I remember:is it pop or soda?

There is one commercial with all the "ah's."  I can't begin to understand what they are saying so they are wasting their money.

Not as much annoyed with mispronunciations as I am with the strange nicknames from hosts to each other & one vendor & host with imaginary scenarios!

@rms1954   That's interestiing, it annoys me when people on tv make it a point to pronounce the "tant" at the end of a word. It like they are trying too hard to be correct.

It's not word usage, it's plain mispronunciation of a word.

I can live with the "impordent" thing because having lived in the South, that's just how it's pronounced there.  However, what drives me crazy is Amy pronouncing the word anemone as "animony,"  rhyming with "alimony."  Also, when people pronouce ochre as "okra" - now THAT is Southern!  ha!
