Listening to talk of tariffs on China, I expect that prices on the Q will rise since so much of the merchandise is made in China...

Re: Prices going up?

[ Edited ]

This was in the article Kachina posted. QVC took a similar approach in its Q2 2018 earnings call. President and CEO Mike George acknowledged the risk but said tariffs have had a "fairly modest impact" and quantified this as $10 million to $15 million.

The article also states some have already shifted resources from China to Vietnam & other places in the Asian Pacific.

Prices on everything will be going up. What else is new?

I have seen companies take advantage when the difference is minimal but they raise prices way beyond what is necessary.  They use the situation to enhance their bottom line.

In my case I shop for price and if I see something I like I hunt for it until I am satisfied I am getting a good deal.

QVC raised many prices overnight on July 1, the date the first tariffs went into effect.  They had nothing to do with the products the Q sells; They were simply taking advantage of the belief of the general public that prices were going to go up.

I agree its not just tariffs, its increase in wages, increase in benefits costs like medical insurance, gas prices, and other expenditures etc etc.....So prices are going up for various reasons....For example in the grocery store here the locally grown organic produce and other local products they brag about have had price increases, since its local tariffs aren't involved there.....

@Spurt.   World Economics is such a complex thing with widespread implications, when amateurs dabble in it, they're courting disaster.
