Re: Posters Self-Moderating vs. Deletion

As far as I can see there's way too much policing going on... I'm also sick of seeing 'threads closed to further comment', which is getting to be ridiculously prevalent... and more times than not the threads are essentially innocuous. It's a cop out.

I don't get it. They seem to want to shut down discussion of the most mundane things... As noted, it appears they and some posters wont be content until the boards are as bland, boring and Stepford as the program schedule...

There's no reason to let posters pursue nasty, contentious discussions ad nauseum, but let's get real here, the world isn't exactly Sunday school and a little lively discussion and yes, even a little snark, isn't a bad thing... At least it's real. Personally, I'm not seeking all sweetness and light and find an awful lot of those who seem to be doing so to be a bit on the prissy, pretentious, pompous and sanctimonious side...

Re: Posters Self-Moderating vs. Deletion

I find it weird strange the way those wanting extreme censorship, jump in and take a bite out of even ambivalent remarks by a poster. It appears they enjoy their "job" of complete cleansing of the board, they miss bygone opportunities and attack the mildest of negative comments.

I, myself, feel so much censorship as pure, unadulterated, well, just plain old STIFLING and claustrophobic, not to mention freedom of opinion.

Noticed golfcartrider being attacked for absolutely nothing and just b/c some wanted to put her in her place.

Re: Posters Self-Moderating vs. Deletion

baker, I totally agree with you. However, I will say that the moderation of these posts is really very childish. It reminds me , for some reason and don't ask me why but it does, of a ladies bridge party set in the 50s. Just be prim and proper, keep it all in ,etc. And, I also must say that I'm really getting tired of how the term "bullying" is tossed around. It seems that if you say anything contrary to what someone likes or agrees with, you are a bully. It has really gotten so silly. No, we should not attack a host or presenter personally, never. However, we should be able to say something negative (without personal attacks ) and not be called a bully.

I thought maybe letting other posters comment would have been more interesting and informative versus just deleting it completely. Wouldn't that make this a more interesting and interactive board?

Wouldn't that just make more drama?

You know people here would want to see a mean poster dragged through the mud and getting her comeuppance. They'd relish it. Even better if she (or others) fight back.

I agree it would make the board more interesting and interactive as everyone piled in to watch the catfight but I don't think 'informative' is the right argument to make for keeping these posts.

Great analogy. Maybe we should all don white gloves, pill boxes with little veils and sweet little A-line linen dresses before we sit down to post... And I couldn't agree more about over-use of the 'b' word... Anything remotely contentious, any disagreement, anything not rose colored or sweetness and light is now defined by some as 'bullying' and it's utterly ridiculous.

Re: Posters Self-Moderating vs. Deletion

It's not about the board. I think the poster probably re-read her post and decided that her post really didn't reflect what she was feeling and that it might even be hurtful; so, she deleted it. And I think she did the right thing. I think many of us who post on a regular basis have posted something critical and then we re-read it and wish we hadn't posted.

That's why I frequently use the edit choice... I like to correct errors but I sometimes also like to rethink what I've said... It's a good option and better than having the moderators doing it for me...

Thank You so much taja! I tried to get my thread deleted, I reported over and over, I made a plea to the moderators and you know what got it deleted. I opened with a prayer this morning. Within seconds the thread was gone. I really insulted people I guess. Anyway I am glad the thread is gone and My starting thread days are over.

If you are referring to me, I deleted everything said between me and the comments that were so nasty. I stand by my comments but the nastiness was just uncalled for.

Hope you have a blessed day!Smile

Re: Posters Self-Moderating vs. Deletion

QVC recently took a poll of the forums. More people voted to have nasty posts deleted than voted to have them moderated, so that's what they did.
