His family has been in the business for a very long time, so he's not new to the jewelry business.

"While clinical skin care and beauty have been my passion and my grandparents' history, fine jewelry has been my best-kept secret. After all, I practically grew up in my parent's jewelry workshop in Manhattan.

Since 1939, my father, and later my mother, brought to life the designs of many of the renowned artists, celebrities and impresarios who would call on them. I learned by watching them firsthand, and throughout my life their inspiration and expertise have remained steadfast with me.

In my youth, I spent many days on Fifth Avenue in the opulence of one of New York's most prestigious museums. There, I volunteered in the Jewelry Reproduction department, mastering the very art that my parents had practiced for decades. On Mondays when the museum was closed, I would wander the galleries like an explorer. It was there that the motif behind my Ribbon and Reed collection caught my eye for the very first time.

Classic and elegant, it adorned a selection of the greatest masterpieces and objets d'arts, as well as the details of some of the grandest rooms. For me it felt symbolic of luxury, power, romance and authority. Years later, I drew on its inspiration to create my timeless jewelry collection.

Please enjoy wearing, collecting and cherishing my Ribbon and Reed collection
— modern classics that convey timeless elegance."

i've been watching him make the rounds on several talk shows explaining how and why he's suddenly (it seems that way) in the jewelry business.

Maybe this site will explain it for you:

I didn't buy any of it because it doesn't appeal to me.  However, it does seem odd to be doing both but this this America and whatever works for people, I say.

The thing is that if you like his skin care products, then that's what matters.  I use Dr. Denese.

Why is it so odd that a person would have more than one interest???

If his jewelry lines ends up being as good as his skin care, I'll be the first to praise him. But so far his Ribbon and Reed Design reminds me of Bamboo designed jewelry and I really don't like Bamboo (or inspired).... also the circle fashion came out a few years ago and I'm already tired of it.  I'll continue to look for his designs.... because I'm sure the actual jewelry is probably very well done.... but I'm just not interested so far.

There's nothing wrong with being multi-talented and being successful doing more than one thing.  PTR is not all over the place; he can walk, talk, and chew gum at the same time, and he's laughing all the way to the bank.  I would love to be so blessed with talent, energy, and creativity, and I don't begrudge him his success.  He's earned it.  By the way, I don't use his skin care products, and I haven't seen his (or his parents') jewelry creations, so I'm totally neutral and unbiased.
