Re: New Show Host

[ Edited ]

Give Julia a chance! I've seen her very well prepared. Other times, not so much. Nerves? IDK what may be going on in her life.

Remember the host who was a train wreck for over 1 1/2 years? Couldn't believe she made it past probation. She finally is on air regularly by default (after Mary Nelson resigned). She is tolerable; but still "canned speaking", mispronounces words, admires herself in the monitors, talks about her family & personal life way too much, not a good conversationalist with guests, etc.

Money screams; wealth whispers.

Doesn't look like Julia going to get much on-air practice over the next 3 weeks of this "experiment" with TSV reruns.

If you look at the program guide scheduling for the 1-2 am hour there's Ali Carr, Courtney Webb, Katrina Szish and Terri Conn doing 1 hour stints but no Julia or Rachelle McCray.

True, the hosts that need the on-air experience the most are the ones losing air time in these few weeks.  Rachelle McCray has done a Halloween makeup video on FB for QVC right now.  I guess they'll keep the hosts working in one way or another.

I have not seen any of the new hosts.  However, I have been a viewer for over 30 years and I believe that the hosts-in-training back in those days spent more time on-air with the experienced ones.  That is probably what needs to happen now, but time is money, and newer management is probably much younger and does not feel the need.  Either you make the cut or you don't.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

I came here to see who that host was. I like the Lug line and tried to watch. I had to keep switching back to check to see the next product, but my first thought was, "Who is she and why was she hired?" I had never seen her before, but now that I see her name, I have seen other comments on the board, so now I know who they are talking about. Too loud and giggly for me (yes, another one of those!).

I didn't choose this as a career.  Ms. Cearley did.  So I think it's reasonable to expect some proficiency.

She is green, in the process of learning the ropes and finding her groove. There is tremendous pressure involved in presenting items on air;so much that we never see. I feel that all newbies deserve a chance before being held under the microscope of harsh judgement, and am sure that if my fellow employees were asked if my job performance was exemplary when I first started, the answer would be a resounding NO.

I saw her Lug show this morning too and the poor thing is just trying too hard. Julia has to rely on her cards too much when she isn't giggling and squealing. I didn't have to mute her this time so IMO she is getting better, but I will be surprised if she makes it. Mary Nelson succumbed to the pressure of that job, I think you have to be calm and fast on your feet to survive as a host. I can see MBR who trains these women is starting to slow down and stumble over words and forget things when she is on air. Watched Kirsten today and she is one terrific host, I believe she was like that from the beginning, so either you have it or you don't.
