Re: New Host Position Recruitment

I would like to see various Muppets host and sell.

Why not, so many complaints about the hosts that a Muppet would not be whined about.

The first bullet point....explains why QVC's focus is not on a professional sales show host, but rather a raconteur of stories.

Re: New Host Position Recruitment

If the host starting salary is $150K: they must make their sales quota and no dead weight, just going thru the motions, those hosts won't stay. The salary is an incentive for people like Sandra to stay 4EVER!!

Re: New Host Position Recruitment

@Effie54, exactly. you would think they would learn.

If I've read things correctly the International channels of QVC seem to be holding their own. And if you ever watch them, and I do occasionally check them and other foreign channels, what you see is the traditional sales model. One voice at a time. One host, usually with a vendor. No one talking over one another. No one interrupting. No fantasy stories. No dancing, prancing, and acting the fool. A product displayed, described, and priced.

So television viewership has been down, is it any wonder? Rather than blaming cutting a cable, the Olympics, and an election why don't they look in the mirror?

So what aren't they getting?

@Etoile308  Yessss! My point exactly! I have watched QVc in other countries. I found it so interesting. The show hosts demeanor is calm, intelligent, professional. The opposite of what the Q is doing now! They're not acknowledging the reason for their sales decline. So many are turned off by the long-winded, never ending stories their, families, escapades, personal lives, etc. if I want that, I'll put on an afternoon talk show. So, in essence, they can't change what they won't acknowledge. It short-sited and self-limiting. Their quarterly earrings say it all. I'm in total agreement with you.

I think Quicking is more commonly used as a British term.  It could be the person who wrote this is from England and instinctively thought it was the common word, as opposed to quickening or some other word to imply rapid pace & going quicker and quicker.

@Caaareful Shopper - My DH and his family are British, my friends and former colleagues are British.

And I have never heard this term!  I lived and worked there for 20 years.  I just mentioned it to DH and he said "What???"

I don't think we can lay this at the feet of the British.  Unless you know differently?

(ETA:  I think they meant to say "quick-thinking" and just plain got it wrong!)
