Re: Mary Beth Roe Announcement

Most people, today, do not work until 65 or beyond if you are a long term employee & have prepared for retirement. I did work beyond 65 as I was given an incentive to stay for a particular project & set time frame. I loved my job but everyone gets to a point in time where you want more time with family, leisure time & travel or many want to be young enough to explore totally new careers or explore special interests.

Can you say "Monetize Mary Beth's retirement?"

I can see it now..."Last Special Days with Mary Beth"...."Special Good Bye Deals from Mary Beth"....."Things Mary Beth Loves"...."Last Christmas Picks with Mary Beth"...and finally..."Mark Charles Celebrates MaryBeth's retirement with Special Anniversary Set of 500 snip set, in 50 colors, 10 of each....so you can snip away until you finally remember....it's a TeeVee Sales Person for crying out loud who is 65 and WANTS to retire...just like everyone else who can and is ready to do so!!!!

Anyone think she wants to STILL be getting up, getting dressed, driving in to the Q campus, attending endless sales goal meetings with metrics and figures and projections and vague threats what'll happen  if things don't improve....then having layers of heavy TV makeup glop applied, squeezing into some bag-like clown patterned  TSV "dress' and standing there for three+ hours selling the same ole same ole same ole stuff they sell 24/7 every day of the week, wrapped up in a special "MaryBeth" version?!?!?

The ONLY way she literally agreed to do this extension is....

"Here's the thing.....You want me to stay?... Here's what you'll pay!!!"

And they literally said :  "OKAY!!!!"

You ALWAYS have the upper hand when your employer asks YOU to stay on when you want to leave.!!

Good for her!!!

She's very sweet and nice, but she's no naive fool!!!!

Sheeesh!!!

Some enjoy their work,  contributing, being involved.

@occasionalrain  Most people contribute to society without hosting shows at QVC.  I bet she is so ready to move on.  I haven't seen her in a show in years.  But I don't watch much.  I enjoyed her on air.  She explained products very well, corrected herself if she made a mistake, and was always pleasant to watch and listen to, and did have a personality too!

Do writers stop writing, artists stop painting, how many successful sought-after actors retire at 65?

At 65 their children are adults with jobs, friends, interests of their own. Grandchildren, if there are any, have friends, interests, activities of their own.

Those employed have  weekends and vacation time to spend as they please.

@occasionalrain I thought you were speaking about Mary Beth and you speculating she was forced to retire.  I am sure whe wants to do something else, and not necessarily a job, if she has the health to do do.

Spending time with family often translates to caring for elderly parents, unwell relatives, or providing childcare for grandchildren.

I understand that not everyone enjoys their job and look forward to retiring.

Some however have no desire to retire. More couples have chosen a childfree life, my married child and their friends have. Family gatherings don't appeal to them.

Re: Mary Beth Roe Announcement

I think a lot depends on how well you like your job, or even, on your health, or financial situations or family. That is different for everyone.

DH retired with full benefits and was offered a lot of money to go do some on the job training in Mexico.....he chose not to and it worked for us.  It's true, however...What works for one person doesn't always work for another.  The way I see is....   "It's whatever floats your boat".

I think Mary Beth is enjoying all the attention. She's such an asset her bosses want her to stay. If she really wanted out she would leave. Having fans is addictive.
