DING DING DING DING.... BIG NEWS!
WOW, now that's shocking...
KDenn, you win the prize for unearthing this rather startling tidbit of, uh, corporate... news!!
To quote Mike George (aka Mikie): "Under her leadership, we've deepened our customer relationships and significantly expanded our ecommerce, mobile, and social platforms.
Deepened their customer relationships... Really...? I'd say that's getting pretty deep all right... But oh my yes, they've expanded their social platforms, as if that's a good thing... For heaven's sake, the first ten minutes of some shows are spent discussing FB rather than products...
Curious, I'd say, that there's no mention of a 'next step' for moms... Makes one wonder whose choice this was...
I'd love to think that things couldn't get worse, but watch this space because gosh only knows who they might bring in and what their agenda might be...
Toodles moms... and as has been said before, don't let that screen door nip ya... On a serious note, though, while I don't personally like the direction the Q has taken during her tenure, there's really no reason to do anything but wish her well...
WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!
I'm in a state of shock although we've been, (as Dusty Springfield sang), "wishin and hopin'".....I never thought that Mikey would actually see a parting of ways with his "best buddy".......but it all pans out to what many of us have known all along---the QVC USA financials have not been so hot....wonder if even Shop HQ beating them out in terms of product sales was the straw that broke that camels back......and just when she did an interview in the Wall Street Journal too (the enclosed blog has a link)........It will now be interesting to see what direction the Q goes with this.....will we see improvement--or just when you thought it couldn't get worse, putting it in those words of Jonie Mitchell ..."you don't know what you've got until it's gone".......
STAY TUNED FOLKS!!!!!
Hey Stevie you must be psychic since you quoted this song in one of your recent threads (BTW we used that song when our company changed execs.....when the new one came in we were terrified, but she actually turned out okay despite her demeanor, and after she left we were a tad irritated with the replacement so every time we heard the Joni Mitchell song over muzak it always gave me and a friend a good laugh ).....
Maybe moms got a job offer from her previous employer-Wally World....
But I think Linda Moss said it very well---
"Wowser — there’s trouble in West Chester, Pa.: Claire Watts has resigned as chief executive officer of QVC’s U.S. network, effective Friday, “to pursue other opportunities.”
That last couple of words is a catch phrase that reporters interpret as “it was not her choice.”
http://homeshoppingista.wordpress.com/2014/09/04/qvc-u-s-ceo-claire-watts-exits-network/
http://blogs.wsj.com/atwork/2014/08/15/qvc-exec-how-i-learned-to-work-backwards/
Darn it---since I'm going out of town I won't have time to purchase or send moms a going away gift......perhaps a Q Gift Card would be an adequate way to "thank" her for the many ways she has "changed" QVC and it's programming...why she could purchase the Vitamix, Shark/Dyson, or a computer or tablet
......or perhaps I could get her the Logo Lock and use bill to/ship to ---gee what color should I select......
It will be interesting to see how the Q cheerleaders put a spin on this since one of their favorite pet phrases was, "things must be going well or QVC wouldn't continue to do it"......
And word to Mikey---social media activity does not necessarily translate into being a successful company....you look at the flops-Send The Trend, Purchase Of Oodle, Putting taped shows on Q Plus, The FB "Friends" and with the exception of one or two vendors the celebrity lines didn't work out either ......it's the bottom line, which means variety and quality products at reasonable prices if you want sales...
One wonders if the divisions that have not been performing well--jewelry and electronics have those folks shaking in their shoes...Remember the sign as they faded away to a break on Johnny Carson (will there be) MORE TO COME.....
And I love this quote too-one can only roll their eyes
In May, Watts told a Liberty Interactive investor conference that "we want to change the way the world shops, by re-imagining shopping, entertainment and social (media) as one... It's actually happening." In a 40-minute presentation, Watts and her staff talked about recent "experiments" designing possible cross-promotions between QVC sellers like designer Isaac Mizrahi and TV shows like NBC's Apprentice, ABC's Shark Tank and Lifetime's Project Runway, and with Disney and Sesame Street characters.
"Amazing work is going on in digital, in media, in marketing, in technology, that is going to take this company into the future," Watts added.

And yes, game and reality shows and shows highlighting utterly tacky people (and families...) have pretty much completely taken over the airwaves. I can't believe people are actually duped into thinking this slop is entertainment... And don't get me started on cell phones... The thread over in another forum makes for fascinating reading, as the aficionados debate the advantages of upgrading to the latest and greatest iphone... You know, just so they can go through the whole thing again in another few months... And the lunacy of people lining up outside a store to be among the first to get a new phone... Come on now. When did we, as a society, get so whacked...? I guess it's a different strokes kind of thing. And hey, if some folks want to walk into traffic while they're talking, checking mail, texting or posting to FB that's completely up to them, but when they rudely walk into or hold up the works for others because they can't 'put it away' for five minutes, well, that's when it gets to be a problem!
And I hate to be associated with it, but I have to say my DS is one of the smartphone and reality TV zombies....(it's not just Eli where she has lost direction).
No one can call her on Tuesday Nights because that's when "her shows are on".....Dance Moms, Duggers, The Little People etc etc....and she is SHOCKED that I don't watch---I told her living vicariously through other people is just not my thing....
.....she counters with my sports thing---but at least its a challenge, a contest, some skill and athletic ability is involved---and there is the bonus of the "eye candy".... to each his own!
And I do have other outside interest too...
As for the smartphones and getting up in the wee hours to stand in line at the nearest store to purchase the latest and greatest gadget---it reminds me of one of those bad sci fi movies where someone/something puts a mass mind control over the populace---so it's SCI FI COME TO LIFE!!!!....or to quote Coach George Allen, THE FUTURE IS NOW!!!
Let me count of the ways of impacting others of the inconsiderate users... some quite serious--people getting injured or losing their lives as the result of driving and talking/texting.......or just annoying-- standing in the middle of an aisle in a store while they chat endlessly about nothing--blocking others, or stopping suddenly while going down an escalator to continue a conversation or type a text, while others behind them are scrambling not to run into each other...or using bathroom stalls as phone booths......and hearing phones ring during a movie, concert, loud conversation in a restaurant or even in a church at a funeral no less during the eulogy....

I wonder what will happen now with QVC? The CEO has resigned, so things can't have been going well. I won't be watching anyway, since we got rid of our cable. We have local channels in digital TV. We can get the CW and a couple others but no shopping channels.Fortunately, most of the football games are on local stations. Except for MNF; I'll have to follow those game on my computer.
SPURT, your sister watches "Dancing Moms" and the Duggers? I have no idea why she's into those shows. But then , she does like Eli, and the Giants, so go figure.... To be honest, I don't care about their coach, Tom Coughlin. I don't know why, just something about him.
Off to watch the Thursday night game now.

I was chatting with a friend at work today about the very sad passing of Joan Rivers and was saying she was one of the few QVC vendors I still looked forward to seeing. My friend responded that she tuned into QVC recently after not being a regular shopper for some time, though she once was, and was really surprised at how much it had changed, and how limited, irrelevant and bad it seemed to have become... I can't imagine she's the only one with that reaction. Certainly, some of those of us who are still somewhat 'regulars' have been saying this for some time. So yes, it's sorely time for a change and yes, we can only hope those changes are for the better and that we won't soon be lamenting what we've lost... I can't imagine that we will be, because if whoever takes the helm doesn't make some significant changes for the better, well, some of us who are still somewhat 'regulars' probably no longer will be...
QVC has made some really lousy choices in recent years and veered into directions that have not proven to be worthwhile. It seems they've reached a crossroads, where they can either continue to arrogantly push a failing agenda or they can make strides to right the ship...
And yes, those who've been content to sit by and assume 'it must be working', often lambasting those of us who have maintained that it isn't, need to take stock of the rather glaring reality that major corporations don't change leadership for no good reason...

Hi Teganslaw....well I hope you enjoyed the start of the NFL Season....those Seahawks look like the started where they left off...... a well oiled machine.
The QVC USA CEO is gone, but there is the former Dell Exec ,who is in charge of the whole kit and kaboodl, is still there, so we will haave to see if this change even makes any difference. BTW you can also stream QVC although with their current programming there is probably nothing on that would be of interest to anybody....
I thought of getting rid of cable myself because all those channels and so little on....BUT 95% of my Spur's games are shown on cable channel Fox Sports SW.....so that is about the only thing that keeps me hanging on and I also like the old movies on TCM too.....
Yes my DS does not have too good taste at all in her choice of favorite TV shows what can I say....she is a bit weird ..... what can I say
How is Lucky doing?
Take Care.....

Hey Stevie......Joan River's passing was very sad.......and she was even one of the few celebrity QVC vendors that was a success because she took the time to get involved in the actual development of what she sold and demanded good quality. It is going to be a difficult transition for Joan's daughter since they were so close and even worked together on Fashion Police...my prayers go out to Melissa and her son.
And if everything was hunky dorky at the Q why would an exec pursue "other opportunities" or even consider leaving, unless the CEO and Board weren't satisfied with her financial results....it seems clear that everything is not wine and roses at Westchester.......I have not even been around QVC as some folks have, but noticed a significant change in the last few years....I don't expect everything to remain status quo in the retail world, products that people want change with times, but mom's current offerings have become somewhat PATHETIC---take this very weekend for example---another round of Philosophy and computers....a 5 year old could come up with something better!!!! The programming and reduction of vendors is down right PATHETIC!!!! I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but just have to vent.....and I bet some cheerios have put their pom poms temporarily in storage for the time being....or at least they should!
