Fair?? didn't think of getting/using an app for extra benefits as being fair or not. Frankly, QVCs app is horrible and not worth any extra goodie. Same with HSN. I deleted both of them. And it is a choice to get an app or not. Just another marketing thing.

This is why anyone and everyone encourage you to download their app to your phone:
My phone is also used for business and our security company continually checks all phones to ensure that the maximum privacy settings are in use and for those apps that do not provide the user the ability to set privacy settings, the app will not install.
In this day and age, many businesses may sell retail, but their number one goal and income generator is data broking - the compilation and selling of personal information.
It is recommended that one review the privacy setting on their smart phones, as well as the settings on each app. If one does not know how to do this, seek out someone who does, often local libraries have special programs regarding privacy settings for computer/smart phones.

Yes @Biftu it is fair to me. It IS offered to all customers. It's not excluding anybody because everyone has the option to use the app.
For those believing that by using the app you are being tracked? You do realize every move you make practically is tracked, app or no app as @SamBrown mentioned.
Like @geezerette and @Sooner and @They CallMe MRWILKES and @cindyNC all stated, it's everywhere. I get the offer every single time I log on to Ebay as well as HSN and many other retailers. Haven't you ever gone to a store like Macy's or Home Goods and every time you check out you are offered a discount on your purchase if you apply for their card? It's the same thing. If you already have the card you are not offered the 10% off your purchase.
Businesses do this to gain customers, and it's their right. I have no issues and never thought of it being "unfair". I choose not to use the app at this time and click the X and move on. No hard feelings for me.

Like @geezerette has stated, there are incentives for ones who have the Q card. Is that fair for ones like me who don't have their cc? Just like anyone not wanting to get the app, which I have, I don't want to get Q's cc. Is it fair that some get coupons in the mail and others don't? No it isn't. Regardless if you do or don't get any store apps, do you really think you're that your information isn't out there for people to see? I'm sure you're taking a lot of safety precautions that you can, but info can still get out there. Credit card numbers can be stolen by your server when they take it to pay your bill. We should always take precautions and be safe, but don't be upset if you're going to miss out certain coupons because you want to take those safety precautions. If you want to take advantage of the discount, then get the app, just like I can get the cc.

@walkingal wrote:@Ronettes Right. It seems everyone, as you said, wants to track our every move.
I'm not giving them any more information than is necessary, they already have too much.

Yes it's fair it gives you choices.
Years ago when paper coupons were more prominent I remember using them and several of my friends didn't. They didn't require personal information like apps but it's a common practice today you choose what works for you.
A company offering incentives to purchase and save money for the customer isn't a negative it's a plus.

@cjm61 I get the offer is available to all those willing to get the app, but I see it as preferential treatment and understand companies can do as they choose. I don't doubt I'm being tracked somewhere, but unlike you getting all those offers when you sign on to sites, I never encounter that as the Q is the only online shopping I do. I am not on any social media sites, nor do I do online bill pay.
i have been offered discounts at Marshall's and Home Goods if I sign up for their card and always decline.
Really it's not a big deal in the scheme of things, just wondering how others felt about preferential and unfair offers.

@Biftu It is retail. You have the choice not to buy, and buy elsewhere. I don't know how you make anything like that fair. Life isn't fair, so be happy and do the best you can for you and forget about. Things like that happen all the time.
It isn't a right, it's just retail.
@Sooner You make it fair by offering the savings to all customers not just those willing to use their app. I get that I don't need to buy, just question the fairness whether life is fair or not.
This has nothing to do with being fair or unfair. Retailers offer all sorts of promotions based on a litany of criteria. Some you may fit into and others not.
Would you say it is "unfair" if someone was not approved for a Q Card because of a low credit score?
