Re: INTERMITTENT FASTING QUESTIONS

Both my husband and I eat dinner around 5:00 PM and then we do not eat anything else after 6:00 PM.

We started intermittent fasting 5 years ago and we are very strict with the regime.  It was only once in the 5 years that we had dinner at 7:00 PM due to having a later appointment that ran our mealtime past 5:00 PM.

Since we're both retired we usually get up around 8:00 AM and have breakfast shortly after getting up.

We weren't looking to lose weight, we just wanted to maintain our weight.

We both feel that intermittent fasting was the best thing we ever did.  After all of these years of not eating at night it just feels completely normal. Neither of us even think of food after dinner.

Re: INTERMITTENT FASTING QUESTIONS

I eat two meals between 12 noon and 5 pm - nothing after that.  I might adjust it a little bit on the weekends.  I never snack after dinner or feel hungry.  Works for me...

Re: INTERMITTENT FASTING QUESTIONS

@12andcounting   Ok, so when I was a bit younger and worked out more, I needed a boost for breakfast, but mostly just a protein shake at the gym, did mu errands and came home by 1PM famished. Sometimes that's when I had my eggs or salad with leftover grilled chicken or a small can of tuna on top.

Now, unless we're on vacation and a buffet breakfast (my favorite) is offered, I can pass with just coffee. If I go to the buffet, it's at 11 before it closes down so that I combine lunch w/ breakfast.

I don't need to lose weight, but feel better not beginning my day loaded down w/ a breakfast. I have 2 cups of coffee about 6:30 -7:30, do a long walk, do anything I need to do like food shopping, etc. and I'm good until noon.

I think the only drawback of the fasting that I've read about is that skipping food from 7-8PM the night before and going with nothing until lunch the next day can cause a person to eat more at lunch or whenever you begin that first meal of the day.

I am wondering if any of you are doing intermittent fasting or have done it in the past.  If so, would you be willing to share your experience?  Did it work for you?

I would appreciate any information anyone is willing to share.  I am considering it, but I have seen both pros and cons about it.  Thank you in advance for any responses.

I do OMAD and have since the '80's.  I am 63 still weigh what I did in high school but I do exercise 6 to 7 days a week.  Eating one meal only once a day since I was 20 years old as had no ill effect on me what so ever.  I had my last bi yearly physical the first week of August w/ lab work and the only med.'s I am on are 3 allergy/sinus and 1 migraine pain medication.  All is good physically.

Back in my early 20's I just got so busy and had only time to eat once a day and continued on doing that except during the 8 month period after I found out I was pregnant in 1983.  Some days I am more hungry than others but I just pop a sugar free butter scotch in my mouth and hunger is gone.  WATER, WATER, WATER.  Good luck!!

Re: INTERMITTENT FASTING QUESTIONS

I do it most days, except when we go camping.  Those breakfast cookouts are my weakness!  I find it easier to maintain my weight in the summertime, since the humidity kills my appetite.

Re: INTERMITTENT FASTING QUESTIONS

I try to do a 36-hr fast once a week. I feel great when I do it. I also appreciate food more and it makes me look forward to cooking.

We have the exact diet except my dinner is at 7:30. Heart  Coffee black one cup only.  I see no reason to change something that really works well for me but some just cannot do the whole day without food.

Re: INTERMITTENT FASTING QUESTIONS

I think if you are wanting to change your way of life. It is important that you speak with a doctor. No one can answer a question about what is right for your body. It is imperative that you take your health seriously. Getting healthy is feeding your body, exercise and drinking plenty of water..

Speaking with a doctor would be a waste of time. They get very little training about nutrition. Furthermore, there actually are people who can figure out what is right for an individual. Naturopaths are one option but each person can do so for themselves as well.
