INTERMITTENT FASTING QUESTIONS

I'm sorry to put this in the Q Talk category, but I can't get into the Community Chat.

I am wondering if any of you are doing intermittent fasting or have done it in the past.  If so, would you be willing to share your experience?  Did it work for you?

I would appreciate any information anyone is willing to share.  I am considering it, but I have seen both pros and cons about it.  Thank you in advance for any responses.

Re: INTERMITTENT FASTING QUESTIONS

I did intermittent fasting for about 2 years.  I didn't see much weight loss but I felt pretty good while doing it.  I found 11:00 to 7:00 worked best for me.  I don't do it now and I am not sure why.  The only problem I had was when we traveled.  It was hard to keep a schedule when traveling.

I have been doing it for the last 3 years, I love it, keeps me on track with my eating habits. I finish dinner at approx 8 PM and dont eat until the next day at 1 PM. No snacks , nothing. I have no trouble sticking to it, Try to eat as healthy meals as I can. This is considered a 17 hour fast which is about the max, you can do it for less time.

Re: INTERMITTENT FASTING QUESTIONS

I could never go without eating for any extended time.  I get shaky, queasy and like to have something to eat every 2 to 3 hours.

Re: INTERMITTENT FASTING QUESTIONS

As a pre-diabetic and in a program to halt any progression, this is the worst thing anyone can do, pre-diabetic or not. It starves the body of needed nutrients, and can make some overeat due to food cravings, not to mention feeling listless and faint.

A big no in my book.

@kaydee50    That is me too.  I consider myself a "Grazer". I rarely eat a full meal...it's just too much for me as I have gotten older....but like to eat something every few hours even if it is a piece of fruit or a cheese stick.  (Ok...a cookie is an option sometimes).  😊

I like small portions of most foods.  Half a sandwich...half of a meal and save the leftover for later.   Guess fasting is not for me unless it is required for a medical procedure.

Re: INTERMITTENT FASTING QUESTIONS

I do it also and it has greatly improved my digestion and GI…
I don’t eat after 6 pm and I don’t eat before 8or 8:30 am
I would push it a bit but I take morning medication and need food intake with it

Once you have a pattern of fasting your body adjusts and your cues to eat come at an exact time
I don’t feel the need to eat until that morning time comes

Also when you fast you lose the need to snack
You eat and then you’re done

I have done it forever. Before I knew it had a name. Maybe since HS, the 70s. I'm usually not hungry before lunch.

Family members sometimes say how bad it is.  Ok. (I'm not overweight, you are.    I don't say that)

Re: INTERMITTENT FASTING QUESTIONS

I have had an eating window for at least five years.  I am never listless or faint.  It did help me lose some weight and to control my blood sugar.  I like not thinking about food constantly.

My personal window is 9 to 3.

@m0rgan

11:00 pm to 7:00 am?  Isn't that called bedtime?  Or is it 11; am to 7:00 pm?

I thought people who intermittent fasted usually did it overnight but extended into late morning.

I guess, depending on your definition of IF, I could be doing it.  I generally don't eat after dinner which is around 8:00 pm.  I usually have breakfast around 10:00 am.  So, that's 14 hours and often includes a gym workout at 7:00 -8:45 am.  My dinner, more often than not is some sort of snack.  I prefer my largest meal to be lunch.  I hate going to bed on a full stomach.

Doesn't seem to affect my weight one way or the other.
