I worked in Customer Service. All calls are monitored and you can see on a screen how many calls are in queue, how long they have been waiting, how many hung up, and many other things.
Modern Technology..easy peasy.

I'm constantly amazed that so many shoppers still call in orders.
I know they do, but it still surprises me.

I usually call mine in, but I do use the automated phone thingy, don't talk to a live person. Well that's actually only if I'm ordering the item that's on air which is 9 times out of 10 as I'm laying in bed at night channel surfing during ads and whatever is on being sold catches my attention.

The technology for monitoring the number of calls has been around for a long time; they could even share those statistics back in the earliest days of the shopping channels in the 1980s.

Software can be used as an HR tool. Do doubt the call count is also used as a marketing tool.

I would think the same way they know how many items are being sold and when they are sold out of it.

I always use their website to order. It's so much faster than calling on the phone. Maybe some people, even in this day and age, do not have computers so they have to call in to order.
