I admit I don’t watch QVC all of the time , so maybe I just miss some of the hosts. Do the hosts also do a lot of off stage work? It seems like veteran hosts are all that are on.

I dont understand your question exactly.

Yes, there is more to a host's job than the time you see them on-camera.

There are 2 channels with 18 or so hours of live programming daily.

Hosts do take vacation and fill in for each other

Are you looking for a particular host?

I would disagree @Calcgirl , the veteran hosts are the only ones on.  However, typically during holiday push, you do see all the hosts more often. Specifically on Q1 you see the tenured ones work their "friendships" with longtime customers for hopes of heavy gift hauls.  But, newer hosts Chelsea, Melissa, Justin and Rosina are on Q1 a little more as than a few of the others.

I assume “stage work” is what you are calling on air hosting on QVC’s main channel.

As already mentioned, all of the hosts do more than what some see on main channel programming. Of course there’s QVC 2, and there’s also live streaming every day, lots of special content videos, meetings with management, training new brand reps, and meeting with brand reps before shows.

There are also many hours of TikTok live shows as well. Add more preparation for location shows and live audience shows. QVC also has a game show of gift wrapping hosted by Chelsea on their live streaming channel.

All of those “extra hosting opportunities” like the videos and TikTok, etc. are often done by the newer hosts because the demographic is geared more in line with them. Also, long time shoppers tend not to like change, so the long time hosts tend to be scheduled a lot on the main channel.

I never have been in retail...but ALL companies (where I worked) have regular staff meetings to introduce new products, sales tactics,  discuss complaints, returns, etc.

Re: Host Question

[ Edited ]

It's been apparent to me that hosts are being deployed to the outlet where they are most valuable and needed.

The veterans, such as Jane, David, Pat, Shawn, Jayne, Rick dominate traditional old-school, old-style TV broadcasts, which are popular among their loyal, steadfast fan bases.

As wisely noted, newer hosts are useful on the social media and streaming functions.  Tik-Tok and QVC+ shows are filled with the newer talent to bring in newer, younger customers.

Makes a lot of sense to me.  Play to the consumer where they are the most comfortable.

Re: Host Question

[ Edited ]

this is regarding Host prep for product information. Yes I imagine they still have product reviews in meetings and such.  Steve Bryant, former early host in his blogs recalls early QVC training. They did not have vendors, or reps with them on air to help demo the product. They were given products, and they researched everything there was to know about the products they were selling. In the old days they hot know  their product to sell it on air. He said, even the cooking shows were solely done, except for a vendor like Virginia from Nesco to help.  Many times they did 4 hour. Shows by themself. They had to know every detail, of electronics to demo properly on air. They don't do that anymore they stopped years ago.  The vendor helps with details on air, the host navigates.  The younger hosts have knowledge of product, but not extensive training in it .  That's what I've heard. You can google steve online. One of my favorite all time hosts.
