When our children were young, we always went overboard for Christmas, each year. Indoor and outdoor lights, the tree, other decorations-wreaths, etc. Now that our children are grown (we have no grand children), we have scaled way back on Christmas - especially, this year. I will be very honest of all of you - with all that is going on right now, I do not feel the same about Christmas decorating, cooking, etc - the usual excitement. I always have the Christmas Spirit in terms of the meaning - the birth of Christ, but the shopping, and the rest is just not the same. I noticed many people on my street have not put up lights this year, as they usually do, either. There seems to be so much hatred in the world, at this time. I pray that everyone has a wonderful Christmas-and that it is special to you, in any way that matters to you. To me, it will be special to be spending it with my family.

Re: Holiday Decorating/Cooking

I totally understand what you are saying, txskies. I celebrate the birth of Christ but not much more. In addition, I lost interest in decorating for Christmas and all the other related activites when my mother died last year. She was the heart of Christmas when I was growing up. Even in her 80's, she was as excited as a child. I will be traveling to visit with my Dad this Christmas where we will share some great memories.
