Thanks for letting me know that @geezerette .  I had no idea. My Stein Mart card was originally obtained at SM, had Stein Mart printed on the front, but was good everywhere. Live and learn, as the saying goes. 😉

@shoesnbags - Every "branded" credit card is a little different; for example, I used to have an Amazon card that was only good at Amazon, but a few years ago, I started using an Amazon Visa card, and it is good everywhere Visa is accepted. Target has a similar option for a store card or a Mastercard version.

I paid my HSN bill today and the message popped up to pay through synchrony bank next time I sign in. Ughhh. 

I am also wondering if it's because of QVC filing for Chapter 11.

I have 3 Synchrony accounts.  I started out with an Ebates card, but when they changed over to Rakuten, the card became no longer valid, but Synchrony was the owner of that card and automatically sent me a Synchrony card.  Then, when the hoopla started about online statements, I found out they also owned my Lowes account and my Belk account.  

I had already been paying those other accounts online when I got that Synchrony card, but when I tried to set up access to my Synchrony account for their card, something happened, and I can't get into their site that way.  I have to go in through my Lowes account. 

I haven't used either my Synchrony or my Lowes CCs since you had to start paying for the statements.  I only use the Belk card once or twice a year.  I like to keep that card because of discounts you can get.  I also used to like to buy a lot at one time and then use their 6 month free interest payment plan, but I don't do that anymore.  I just go home and pay my bill a few days later after it posts and then I don't have to pay that statement fee.  I havent' signed in in months.

@shoesnbags A lot of store cards are also Visa cards and can be used anywhere.  Kohls recently changed their store card which could only be used for purchases at Kohls to a Visa card.  It still has Kohls on the card.  My Home Depot card is just that, for use at Home Depot only.

This isn't new.  I have a few store cards with Synchrony and they combined them all into one Synchrony account.  Your accounts are grouped together.  This was done way before the bankruptcy announcement.
