Is an expression that I find to be downright ugly. Whatever happened to honesty, integrity, decency and hard work until you make it? I was flipping channels earlier and tuned in to QVC as they were presenting the Peace Love World tee (A285613) with 60% of the purchase price going to the non-profit organization NEST. I got on my computer, all set to order, and the vendor said to the host "Fake it Till You Make It." Nope, not this gal. The vendor then high fived the vendor and I immediately changed the channel. So I saved myself $29.95 + $3.00 shipping + tax.
And these are the same people who some folks believe and trust when they say "guaranteed Christmas delivery." Uh, no. Some hosts and vendors will apparently say anything to make a sale and line their pockets. What a turn off. Whew, I feel better.

Guess I'm missing something, if you are selling a world peace tee, why would anyone say that? What was the context?
Don't understand what that expression has to do with a tee?

@Mistreatedbycs, Frankly I didn't get the connection either. It was just thrown out there and I really found it a complete turn-off. And if I missed something, I hope someone will correct me and let me know I'm wrong.

I'm totally lost, so I'm going to leave it here and not purchase any of that merchandise and won't regret it.

From what you wrote, I do not understand the context in which the phrase was used. But, in general, I have only heard that phrase used in positive ways to suggest such things as:
--Dress for the higher- level job to which you aspire and not for the job you have.
--Project confidence even if you are feeling a bit insecure in some situation, and you will become more confident.
--Take a deep breath and face the day with a smile, even if you are having a rough time, and you will feel better and attract better energy to yourself.
etc
Usually, it is a positive adage and not about being phony.

Don't get it You wanted an item but you didn't like the expression somone used when presenting it so you changed your mind?

Funny thing is that this phrase caused one particular Q host to be fired from a reality show on the third week by Martha Stewart.

Color me confused too.

@Its Me LuLuBelle2 I don't know where you get this phrase is "downright ugly". Before posting check out the origin first. Many posters do the same thing and completely make up their own meaning of things.
Fake it 'til you make it
"Fake it 'til you make it" (also called "act as if") is a common catchphrase. The purpose is to avoid getting caught in a self-fulfilling prophecy related to one's fear of not being confident.
