I'm torn on the phone thing... I too have a Smart phone that's never even been set up. I'm in the process of setting it up now, but I actually hate to transfer my number to this phone because like you, my phone is primarily a phone... It is NOT an extension of my arm, my hand or my life... and once it's done, it's not going to be so simple to go back to a simpler model... Everyone tells me how fast I'll 'become addicted' but I honestly don't think so. When it comes right down to it, I've not been one to hang on phone calls for quite some time and like you, don't feel compelled to game, check email or surf the internet at a moment's notice...

I guess time will tell on the CIJ show from Lisa... I don't expect it to be a thrill a minute, because quite honestly, well, QVC just never is anymore, but if most of the show is enjoyable, new items or really good older items that were hard to find, then I'll be pleased. On the other hand, if it's just another opportunity for moms to push the same tired holiday bilge out there hoping to benefit from Lisa as the host, well, it won't surprise me, but it will pretty much mean I'll be skipping the vast majority of the Q's holiday programming (not that I don't already) because if this is a bummer, then there is truly no hope for the Q's holiday season...

My DS gets mad because I tell her she's addicted to her smart phone........if she can't put her phone away while enjoying a lunch/dinner at a restaurant, or she's aggravating people because while we are playing cards she doesn't pay attention to the game and is instead looking for a song to play, or some YouTube video.....there is definitely a PROBLEM!

I'm seeing more an more magazine articles urging people to turn off their electronic devices for an hour a week as a way to help people de-stress and regain some sanity in their lives (you can't take them away from what I call their ADULT PACIFIER)---In one article the author said he was trying to curb his smart phone use, because the minute he woke up the first thing he did was grab his smart phone---And it was a real challenge for their family to turn off their phones at meal time!!! And it took a major effort to turn off the phone and read a book!.....And there was someone on one of the talk shows, where they had a challenge and took away a person's smart phone for a week and she was actually crying because she did not know how she was going to cope.... Today's society is like one of those bad Sci Fi movies where an alien has controlled the people of Earth using a device---truth IS definitely stranger than fiction!

As for Gem Day---caught a bit of it as I was getting ready for work, what a PLEASANT show an change of pace with Peyton over David M. Why he actually talked about the gems and gave some history on some of the gemstones.....But yes they confirmed that JRT will be the host for the finale

Hey Stevie, Linda Moss had an interesting article that Auntie M had been offered the job of CEO at JCP---but she turned it down---too bad they didn't offer moms the job---the Wall Street Journal said that they are working through the process of a small group of other finalist... why I'd be happy too write her a recommendation....

stevie, I had a phone in the barn and needed a new battery. For not much more, I could buy a whole new phone! Ridiculous.

I checked out the VPH rocking horse, too rich for my blood, over $60. And after paying for my Lab's mouth procedures, biopsies, Bunny's thyroid tests and trip to the opthalmologist and surgery, plus my horses' vaccinations, I am not buying ANYTHING! In fact, a few things are going back to Kohl's. $1850 in vet bills in the last month. OUCH! and I still need to pay for the horseshoer when he comes in a few days and get a stray cat neutered and vaccinated. I don't like having unvaccinated animals around. Oh, and buy 400 bales of hay in two months. See why I can't buy a D&B handbag?!

WOW KS----that is a hefty vet bill (and I hope your dogs are mending well)....and your horses need new shoes!!!.....and yes stray kitties MUST be neutered and vaccinated!!!! ....And then there is normal expense of food etc etc...Perhaps you should make your animals get jobs--I remember people that came around with horses and offered to take pictures--parents were always lured into doing that.....and look at Grumpy Cat with all that publicity and a movie AND a commercial for Honey Nut cheerios ......and there's always pet food commercials... Or have South Carolina change their mascot to a horse....and you can charge them for using your horse during football season.....after all the Cleveland Browns are going to use a bull mastiff as their mascot this season...I wonder how much he is gonna get paid....

I was going to tell you about the horse pendant with chain that QVC had on today ..... but I see its not an option....

WOW!!! $60 for that VPH horse....how big is it.....and does it have real gold painted accents!!! That is pricey!!!! I'll stick with Hobby Lobby and TJ's......

KS, I do see and I think you're priorities are just fine... All my best to the precious animals!

I'll have to look up the rocking horse... I don't recall seeing it, but do like rocking horses.

As for the phone, like Spurt, I guess I'll remove the Android from the drawer and activate it and I'll order a basic cell with big numbers from HSN for mom... Forty bucks for a battery for an old phone just struck me as a bit much, especially when I think that's about what the phone cost way back when...

Four hundred bails... Wow! Don't you wish the Q sold it on Easy Pay! I can see Rick and Jill dressed up like Jed and Granny now...

I just do not get the phone fixation thing at all. It's like an epidemic and I just don't understand it... People at work sit there with their phones as close to them as they can get, people walking down the halls, in the elevators, in the bathrooms, restaurants EVERYWHERE and I just DO NOT GET IT...

I missed most of gem day. I saw Peyton briefly, but he was presenting with you know who (who, incidentally, is apparently taking us up to Jane and the finale) so off it went... I understand that prior to that man (of whoever wants him...) we were treated to several hours of The Marm... Given all this... glad to say I missed most of gem day... I guess Lisa, who usually works these events, has again gone into semi-retirement mode... I'll probably watch as much of Jane as I can take, because I do like gemstones and, as we know, moms does not permit them out of the vault very often...

And speaking of moms... yes PLEASE, write her a reference. Of course, I hate to do that to JCP, especially when they need all the help they can get, but hey, someone has to make the sacrifice... it might as well be them! Interesting that Auntie turned down the job, but I guess it is a tall order to try to turn them around... And since home shopping clearly has few standards... probably easier to remain where she is...

Hey Spurt, perhaps while in Minnesota he can land a gig with the 'new' SHQ... Here's hoping!

No purchases for me. They've shown some very pretty jewelry, but most of those pieces I liked enough to want to own were very pricey and I am trying very hard to pare down and not add to the chaos! I'll see if anything proves 'necessary' during the finale...

I would like to have seen the Fire Opal show, but it was on very early (or very late, depending on how you look at it) and I wasn't able to watch. I wouldn't likely have purchased anyway, but it might've been fun to watch... Still quite annoyed that they couldn't have scheduled this all too rare event on a weekend...

Thanks for posting the rocking horse. It's very cute, but probably not for me. Though I'm going to go take a closer look, the darn thing looks like seventy bucks worth of plastic!

Pat hosted a prime time show last week. I think it might well have been with Our Lady and she did a very nice job. I really wish they'd have her do the occasional prime time show. Meanwhile, her usual sidekick did PM Style last week and also did a credible job...

Incidentally, so far the 'grand'... finale is not impressing me...

I do SO hope, Spurt, that you're working studiously on that letter of reference before moms has the opportunity to do any more damage... I see the SHQ job has been filled so that's one less option, darn it...

Hey Stevie....I also that this past gem fest was the last one and felt very sad, it was a nice change of pace while we had it.......and you would think with the holidays right around the corner that gemstone jewelry would be a good line of merchandise to show.... Perhaps the Q doesn't have the connections with the mines or gem stone sellers like they used to. Or perhaps they are focusing all the money allotted for jewelry to David M. and his Vicenza Style and Bronzo Italia jewelry....there's a bunch of shows next Thursday.....and dont ya know David will be there patting himself on the back.....Get the linament ready AND I will certainly NOT be watching nor buying...

As for those smart phones addicts, during a meeting at our office everyone got lectured about putting smart phones away and we were told to do your job and get to work. So now so they won't get in trouble, people are using the bathroom stalls like phone booths.....

I think ALL TPTB at the Q need a reference and a change of scenery.... And it was funny how ShopHQ hired a lot of ex-Q and ex-HSN employees....
