Re: FASHION, CHRISTMAS, A COOKBOOK, COMPUTERS GALORE! AND THE CONE OF SHAME!

Hey Spurt... I'll see what they have on tap for CIJ next weekend, because, if on the very off chance they have anything remotely innovative to offer, that's probably when it will be. I'll certainly try to catch the finale, since that was when they finally showed some really neat items last year... I'll be skipping all the toys (Gifts for Grand kids {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}) and light shows, of course, along with holiday electronics... and most certainly David in that kitchen, but will check out offerings from Val and a few others. I see moms has retained the same very, VERY stale names for all her holiday programming. You'd think she'd put on her thinking cap (I hear it's shaped like a cone...) and come up with something new, catchy, unique and "NOW", you know, the complete antithesis of most of the actual programming and of the product mix...

I ran a few errands yesterday... I'd gone to the grocery on Friday but still had to stop in to pick up a few things yesterday... In keeping with the new non-customer friendly grocery store experience, they had all of three lines open on a Saturday afternoon and some of the lines were epic... Luckily, since I'd pared my cart down to about five items, I did the self-checkout, which I usually avoid, because it almost always requires a clerk at some point, when something won't scan properly... It actually worked this time, although the lines, even for this 'service', were a bit on the ridiculous side. Of course, I'll have to go again mid-week to pick up the things I couldn't yesterday, lest I have to wait in one of the actual check-out lines... I suspect some of the folks in those lines are still there and still waiting... I also ran to Radio Shack and Staples looking for a replacement battery for an old cell phone I was going to give to my mother, but talk about built in obsolescence, none were to be found. The phone is perfectly functional, but because it's more than a couple of years old, well, forget about it...

Walked through the Maxx, but was in and out in ten minutes... Decided I just didn't need (or want) to be there, but did spend a bit of time in a nearby small bookstore, picking up a few mystery cozies, which make for enjoyable, light bedtime reading...

Hot here, and has been in recent memory and although the humidity hasn't been off the charts, it's been enough, and due to be on the increase, along with the temps and the chance of the seemingly ever-present storms, today through the week... Hooey to summer, I'm ready for fall and wish it lasted for six months! As I said elsewhere, my ideal seasonal breakdown would be six months of fall, two and a half months of winter, two and a half months of spring and one month of summer!! But that said, frankly Spurt, the difference between your two forecasters seems somewhat negligible: hot and miserable is hot and miserable!

To use another budding Q-ism... You're exactly right... not all TJ Maxx stores are created equal... There are actually four discernible levels of store, at least: the 'runway' stores, pretty much always carrying the creme de la creme; the larger, nicer stores, usually located in larger shopping plazas and that tend to be well stocked with pretty good stuff; the somewhat nice, mid-range, stores, which I'd guess to be most of them. They tend to be in smaller centers but are reasonably well stocked. And then there are the bare bones stores... usually in not so nice areas or shopping centers. Oddly, I tend to avoid the 'runway' stores and focus on the nicer and mid-range stores. Marshall's on the other hand, seem to have only good and not so good stores!

As for the gems, yea, well, I'll miss most of it, which is a shame, since gemstones, even a limited collection, are certainly an improvement over 'fine Italian jewelry', at least as the OMQ does it now days... It seems there's no middle ground with Q gems these days, that is to say on the infrequent occasions they're featured. They're either high-end, pricey gemstones and cuts (Morganite, Kunzite, etc...) or the really run of the mill stuff... It would also be nice to see them offer up some of what used to be the more traditional gemstones, like garnet, citrine, peridot, etc... But rest assured, there WILL be turquoise and there WILL be black spinel... I like turquoise, when not of the southwest ilk, but really Q, is that all there is...? As for black spinel, well, no comment...

As for Jane-sie, well, she finished out this visit with Her Majesty. I guess the jester's presence must've been required to hawk yet another 'device' from HP. I tuned in long enough to see who was hosting. They were focused on a six hundred dollar silver, turquoise and fake diamond bracelet, and followed that with those awful TSV earrings, so off it went... As for device day, well, I'm not going there. At all. Because there is potentially a new Dooney bag I want to see presented, (you know, so I can perhaps shop for it elsewhere...), I might watch part of the show today, but that'll be my lone foray into Q viewing since I don't know when, and possibly for the foreseeable future!

Hey Stevie.....

You said you were looking for a battery for an old cell phone to give to your mom.....I was having problems finding a battery for my AT&T mobile wifi device......well the guy at Best Buy said that there is a store called BatteriesPlus.....they are a national chain and also have a website. They sell all kinds of batteries for cell phones, lap tops, and other electronic devices. Check out their website to see if they have a store near you or see if they have it online. They have a product tab for cell phones, click SHOP ALL BRANDS to see if they have yours. If that doesn't work try Amazon....that's the only place that I had been able to find the battery I needed (thank you AT&T(SARCASM)...I just have a love/hate relationship with that company---{#emotions_dlg.mad}And I am so thankful I have another company for my cable!......Good Luck in finding your battery.

I was checking out the CIJ Schedule and I like you I will also be very selective in my programming choices too....and I'm just hoping that they present just a FEW unique and interesting things...But why oh why did they schedule Lisa's Decor & Trim Show from 10Pm until 12 AM on Sunday!.....that is NOT very nice for the working folks ..... and certainly merits a better time slot than Gifts for Grandkids...Lisa's Christmas shows usually have some interesting decor pieces.{#emotions_dlg.glare} At least Valerie gets some prime time showings. And I will need to get up at 6AM CDT on Saturday to see the Jim Shore Show...{#emotions_dlg.mad}That cone can easily be turned into a DUNCE CAP for mom and her programmers....{#emotions_dlg.sneaky}

Now Stevie, if I recall, someone mentioned that they were going to stop purchasing handbags.........so which Dooney were you interested in watching to do some "research" on...Wink. I flipped through the channels and saw that Sue was on with the marm....Oh "lucky" you.....{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Glad I missed Jane presenting the "her majesty".....{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

And your right....I do like turquoise and own a couple of rings and quite a few earrings....I seem to wear a lot of turquoise in the summer....but like anything else, once the Q gets stuck on something...it's like an old 45 recording getting stuck on a turntable....and what was once enjoyable turns into something annoying---moms has that "special touch"....{#emotions_dlg.glare}

I have not heard any of the TV Channels selling jewelry that there is a shortage of peridot, citrine, garnet, amethyst, or blue topaz so why not show jewelry featuring those gems ...or do they purposely chose only those gems, like Sleeping Beauty Turquoise, where the mines have closed, so they can emphasize the shortage so they can charge an outrageous price ......Oh BTW what every happened to drusy...thank God and greyhound it seems to be gone...or do I speak too soon.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Oh yes the self check----the ones at our grocery store actually work pretty good, but the lines for those are just as long as the regular checkouts....Its getting ridiculous what you have to go through to finally get all the items you need at the grocery store and then you have to wait an eternity to check out...Or they have all these EXPRESS lines open...but there's a shortage of cashiers for regular orders .....And as much as I try to avoid Wally World, I had to go there as a last resort and their self check is always a disaster, even the Manager coudn't get it to ring up a couple of my items...

I love to read those cozy mysteries.....In fact I'm in the middle of a series right now....book 18 of a 27 book series.....and I got an advertisement for another series coming out soon.....It provides a good alternative since despite those hundreds of channels on TV there is not much worth watching and it's too hot outside for an outdoor activity........

Re: FASHION, CHRISTMAS, A COOKBOOK, COMPUTERS GALORE! AND THE CONE OF SHAME!

Hey there Spurt... I was interested in a new Dooney line and although the Q is showing the bag I like (large belted shopper) and making it available to their 'special' customers via the Insider, they have yet to post pictures of it on their site, nor did they show it during today's presentation, which blessedly, I forgot was on... Given the marm was hosting, I feel even more fortunate to have missed it! Regardless, they apparently aren't going to be offering the color I want and while it is on EP, I'm not ordering just to be ordering... Then too, there's always the shipping...

I did a check on the battery store and there is one locally and they also indicate having the battery I need both at the store and on their website. The down side is they want close to forty bucks for it, which is more than the price of a comparable new cell phone! So I guess the old phone is headed for the dust bin and I'll just buy her one of those basic phones with the large buttons... It really is too bad, but I guess since the bulk of their sales are batteries and bulbs the mark-up was to be expected. Thanks for the information though, it's good to know they're around for future reference.

I'm a cozy mystery fan from way back, have worked my way through any number of series and authors and am always discovering new ones, some of whom I really enjoy and others of whom don't impress... Then too, there are those long standing series I continue to look forward to and then there are some in which I've sort of lost interest because they simply became too predictable or the writing seems to have become the product of autopilot, over time... And yes, thank heaven for books, because relying on television for entertainment is just not possible... As noted, despite the many channels, actual watchable programming isn't really the norm at all...

I too was disappointed to see they'd pushed Lisa's holiday show to so late on Sunday. Would rather they featured it on Saturday if they had to put it on so late... She typically does offer up some better choices, but it is late for a Sunday night with work looming, and while I'll probably catch some of Valerie's shows, her stuff tends to be somewhat repetitive (imagine that... on QVC...) and I'm not remotely interested in her wreaths, her orbs or her mercury glass, all of which have been done and done again...

Hey, there is also a website called batteries.com. I have been successful getting phone batteries, there, too.

Stevie and SPURT, I don't know if you are familiar with Karen White, but she write wonderful books. There is a series called the Tradd St. series and it takes place in Charleston, SC. The first is the House on Tradd St., then The Girl on Legare St (pronounced Legree, accent on the second syllable), then Strangers on Montague St., then Return to Tradd St. Her books take place on the Lowcountry of SC and they are wonderful books. Just a suggestion for some good nighttime reading, if you are not familiar with her.

One of my dogs, a beagle mix named Bunny, had surgery to remove a carcinoma on her behind where she sits, came through fine and the vet got a good margin so no further treatment and she was just diagnosed with Horner's syndrome which causes a droopy eye and visible third eyelid. It will resolve itself in 6-8 weeks, and this makes me happy because we thought she had an eye tumor and was going to lose the eye. Now one of my black Labs, Belle, has a swelling on the side of her face, possibly a bad tooth?

The above is why I have no money! But they are worth it.{#emotions_dlg.wub}

On one of the ads for CIJ, I saw a rocking horse, but it is not on the website yet. Have to check it out, though, when it is available. Although the last thing I need is more horse Christmas stuff.

Re: FASHION, CHRISTMAS, A COOKBOOK, COMPUTERS GALORE! AND THE CONE OF SHAME!

Hey KS, I've read the first two of Karen White's books and will probably get to the others at some point. I really enjoyed the first one, especially.

Good luck with the pooches... Yes, those babies of ours can get expensive, but as you note, are SO worth it...

As for CIJ, so far, nothing for me... We'll see if anything coming up strikes my fancy or turns my head... but so far, most of what I'm seeing is the same old stuff and I really don't need any more Christmas decorations in the first place!

So Sorry to hear about Bunny, but glad to hear she's on the mend. And am sorry about Belle's tooth problem too. Yes, vets can be very expensive but what can we do, we do love our fur babies......Kiss

Oh yes I saw that CIJ rocking horse on that preview promo and thought of you....{#emotions_dlg.laugh} My DS makes fun of me for watching the Christmas Shows, but then she gets a bit jealous when she sees my decorated home....If your closets are bulging you can always give away a few non sentimental pieces, so you can make room for one or two new items.......

Thanks for that battery website, I will check and see if they have the one for my mobile wifi battery .....or perhaps they offer a better price.....Currently I have to pay $32 with tax and shipping....

And thanks for the cozy mystery recommendation....I will have to check that out too.....always like receiving a new book recommendations....{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Hi Stevie, Well glad you were able to check out that battery website, sorry it was a bit pricey. I guess on the hard to find batteries they have you between a rock and a hard place... Regarding your old phone, it's funny because I prefer my old LG TracFone than my new android that's in a drawer.....my oldy gets better PHONE coverage, which is primarily what I use it for anyway to make and receive PHONE CALLS. I don't feel the need to be connected to the internet 24/7, send endless photos, or play games on my phone, and I'm seldom on my FB (use it to correspond ONLY with out of state relatives).....I actually enjoy a bit of freedom away from all that stuff....{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Sadly VPH has become so repetitive in nature, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for at least a couple of new pieces....She used to offer some seasonal wreaths (of the silk variety).....I still have them and they are very nice. I especially like the Christmas one with the snowman, sled, and ice skates it's so cute on my front door, then I add a snowflake lighted garland (non BL) and a snowman door mat....and it looks great!---The fall one is very nice too with a wheel barrel and pumpkins. I could not make the wreaths m for what I got them for at the Q featured price .......but that was back in the days before the globes, mason jars, ottomans, musical eggs and carolers monopolized her shows....{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I saw a promo for Lisa's "Christmas1" show---why is Lisa putting on lipstick{#emotions_dlg.confused1} ......and I saw those prindable apples too...SAY WHAT?????? Looks like we may be in for another disappointment.....looks more like a gift of host's favorite shows than Christmas decor....{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}
