Re: Does the Halo Bolt work?

I just checked to see how old mine is.  It's nearly two years old.  Still works.

Having said that, I don't tend to drop it in a bucket of water or leave it out in the pouring rain.  I also wouldn't leave it sitting in a baking hot vehicle.  (It's a lithium battery after all.)

@Biftu - When I bought mine they made it clear that, if your battery is below a certain percent, it won't work.  My DH's battery was like that; he'd had knee replacement surgery and his car sat for a long time and the battery was old.  AAA had to come out and jumpstart the car, but their equipment is mega money.  This isn't meant for professional grade.

It also states this in the manual.  I used mine to jumpstart a car and it was fine.  And I've used it on our lawnmower several times without a problem.

I'd never use jumper cables (too much risk of damaging your own car and with all the computer equipment these days, it's not worth it).

I have two. The old version with the small display on the side, and the one from last year with the large display on the top. When I used mine (the old one) for the first time last year, I didn't realize that you don't press the power button first because that is for another function. That's why it wouldn't start the car. It was the wrong button. I did figure it out and it started the car though. My newer one has the buttons more spaced out so it is more obvious. The old one also keeps a 100% charge. The newer one is always around 70% when I check it after a few months.

The reviews for this are brutal.  One even says it can't get wet, which seems like a deal killer if you need it in rain/snow.

Is it a rip-off?

@longtimeqvcwatcher Definitly not a rip off.  Saved me many times.  I bought several as gifts and many have told me,  man that Bolt saved me.   They really come in handy when you lose power also.  I have purchased 9 of them over the years.

We have 2 and they’ve been put to Very good use !!

Jumped an old truck that my husband didn’t think was possible to start. And helped a neighbor one cold winter day, so they could get to work on time.

Who wants to wait for AAA to come out, especially in the middle of winter.

Get it !! You won’t be sorry you did !!

Think of it as insurance, ready when you need it !! ❤️

We bought one years ago and it did not work.  Maybe we got a defective one.

Re: Does the Halo Bolt work?

Over the years I've thought about purchasing one of these Halos but haven't done so yet.  Don't live in a cold climate where I have to worry about my car not starting in the dead of winter.  However, I do live in CA and its earthquake country here.  Its just a matter of when the next big one hits and I could be without power for a few days.  So was thinking in an emergency situation like that, a Halo bolt might come in handy to at least have light at night.  A generator is not an option so this might at least give me some peace of mind.  I already have one of those small Halos that I keep in my purse in case my phone dies but thats all its good for. Have another small Halo that I got years ago, it's rather bulky and a square shape so I don't carry it in my purse any longer but think I'll charge it up today anyway while I"m thinking about it.

I've never had my car battery die on me or haven't had to inflate my tires so not sure a Halo is really necessary.  Need to think about it and make sure that I"m not getting all caught up in the "need to have for emergencies" presentations.

Re: Does the Halo Bolt work?

We've had two from several years ago......Always seem to work.

We've helped several neighbors in our area.  All of their cars started up very quickly.

I keep one indoors during the Winter storms.  They have worked well during power outages.

Along with several battery powered lanterns.  We alternate laterns as they dim, and we always have many D batteries handy so we can replace lantern batteries during power outages.
