Did shipping rates increase?

I saw the luminara lanterns which was a good price ($46)  I was going to order for a bridal shower.  The bride to be loves lanterns & thought it would be a nice addition to her deck.

Then I saw it was $8.00 to ship!  I guess I haven't bought much lately so may not have noticed.  Then, I saw another item and it was $7.50 to ship.

Guess I'll pay more attention!

Not by UPS or USPS. QVC does that frequently.

@BirkiLady

Thank you!  I thought the shipping is normally $5.50 except for higher end/heavier items.

Certainly will make think twice!

@homedecor1   I hope you see this soon.  Pottery Barn has 20% and free shipping and they have lanterns as I bought mine there a few years ago for my outside deck.

Re: Did shipping rates increase?

The high shipping charges have driven me back to the big box stores literally.  I take the $8.00 and purchase gas for my auto and go to our local HOME GOODS store.  Generally I can find things marked down that warm my heart and home .

Re: Did shipping rates increase?

This morning MBR was showing a small rug and I noticed it was $6.00 for shipping. Guess these increases here and there are offsetting products shipped free or at reduced rates.

Re: Did shipping rates increase?

@homedecor1 and @BirkiLady - Yes, the USPS just implemented an increase in what it calls "Dimensional Weight Pricing" at the end of June. This affects all packages that measure larger than 1 cubic foot in all mail classes except First Class Mail and Media Mail. It has actually made me start second guessing some of my selling on ebay, as the cost to ship large and heavy packages is now quite a bit higher, especially if they must travel long distances.

Re: Did shipping rates increase?

   So QVC charges us shipping on each item and then puts many in a large box and the postal service will charge more for it. My mailman must hate large boxes, he tosses them.

    Then when I get my credit card bill I have to figure which item each is by the order numbers to be certain it’s correct.

     I have to watch for refunds that don’t appear and I’m sure I’ve missed some.  It’s becoming cheaper and easier to shop my local stores or the P X (no tax). No shipping. I can return and get credit immediately.
