They said David was not on tonight because he was on "special assignment".  He apparently was in the building taping something  that will air this summer.  They were not at liberty to discuss what the project is, only that it is a collaborative effort.   Very strange indeed.

Probably taping all the promos for Christmas in July with those big ornaments doing the happy dance with the big blowup lawn ornaments😉🙂

Thank God they have David because obviously he's the #1 salesman for QVC since people seems to be bothered he's not on....

Without David QVC sales would be worse --  he can sell "ice to eskimos" as my dad would say!😉

"On special assignment" is commonly used in television.  It's just a catch-all phrase to explain someone's absence, and usually doesn't mean very much at all.

Maybe @homedecor1  is right....perhaps CIJ promos...OR perhaps he did a new cookbook and thats what he's  promoting????.........And whats this "on assignment" it doesnt seem this would be anything special  because of CO-VID and traveling restrictions.....  He used to do those special shows from the Wine Festival in Colorado (he taped all kinds of stuff behind the scenes and streamed those, but only showed the same ole same ole products on air...hope its not that....to me that was a waste of money and time...more like a vacation for the crew, but nothing new for the viewer.)  Or maybe he's updating his happy dance....

Maybe they're just trying to be provocative and cause everyone to speculate.  Sounds likely that this is it.

@Pearlee But he ate at home or on the way to the Q. I hear him say this is for the food on the way to woek or his drive home. He will be really think if he only ate at the Q lately. He He !!

David announced in advance on his social media pages that he would not be on the Friday show because he was "on assignment." Whether he picked that phrase or someone else did and he just used it, as has been mentioned, it's just a generic way of saying he's still working but won't be on air. There's a good chance he'll tell us what it was all about later; this has happened many times over the years.

Not strange at all IMO. It's just a way to whet viewer's appetite and create interest for what's to come.
