Re: Chapter 11 Filing Confirmed Today

I think as the economy tightens we will be looking more for quality than quantity and price.  I think purging is about to become a thing of the past too.  And quality and longer wear will be again more important than it is now.

Looks the creditors will now vote on lifespan.  Interesting to see what these 'experts' think.

Re: Chapter 11 Filing Confirmed Today

Two things that I think hurt QVC:

1.  They moved away from the idea of the hosts as knowledgable and trusted presenters.  Back in the day, QVC would feature one host speaking directly to the viewer about a product.  They would provide information about the products, demonstrate them, and always maintain a professional demeanor.  They exuded confidence and authority, and while their personalities came through, it was never at the expense of their presentations.  Today, a typical hour will include a host, an "assistant" host, a product rep, and a couple of models.  There's a lot of chatter and antics and an over-emphasis on trying to "entertain."

2.  QVC specialized in the impulse purchase.  Viewers watched, saw something they wanted or needed, listened to the presentation, and then called in to order.  Today, with so many information sources available, viewers can see an item, then go online to read product reviews, check other sources for better pricing and similar products that might be better than what QVC is selling.  People today are less inclined to purchase things on an impulse.

I think QVC can more easily fix the first issue than the second.  I hope they can find a new path forward.

it's pretty simple....AmaZON.  QVC lost its "tag" lines...quality value and convenience.

@Sooner Agree 100%.  It seems that all the "Studio Park" collections are depending on which host sponsors.  I see no difference from D&C, SG, KG, etc.  Do people really buy because a particular host is selling the item??

Yes. There are die hard David fans who have said they only buy things when he's on.

Re: Chapter 11 Filing Confirmed Today

Well, maybe CH 11 will give QVC a chance to reset. Forty years is a pretty long time to stay functioning exactly the same way.

I just bought a lovely blouse from Neiman Marcus, so after their filing they are trying to restructure, although our local Saks closed down. We have lost so many great department stores because many Americans stopped going to brick and mortar stores. Home delivery seems to be the common way of living these days, although QVC was ahead of the game originally.   IMO Americans have become a bit passive and lazy about shopping, and want comfort and ease even more than quality.

I disagree that QVC has lost quality, value or convenience--there are many unique brands on this platform, and more vendors want to join every day.

I think the average QVC shopper is older, perhaps retired, and already has a great collection, so is not shopping at the same level.

Nowadays many people want the cheapest items, which is why so many young people shop in thrift stores.

Somehow QVC has to reach out to younger generations, while continuing to serve their faithful audience.

The economy has also been difficult over the past few decades, and young people want to prioritize experiences (and perhaps home buying) rather than filling their closets.

I come here to shop, not to share all my life issues on these forums.  QVC is a great source for special items.  I was just at the QVC outlet this week and picked up a few very nice gifts at superb prices.

I have enjoyed shopping on QVC for many years, and will continue to do so, so I hope they survive. However, I do miss all my former shopping favorites who have disappeared, such as Lord & Taylor, John Wanamaker's, Bonwit Teller, Kaufmann's, Gimbels, and the list goes on.

I wish QVC the best!

@They CallMe MRWILKES Off topic but I mentioned AllBirds' woes the other day. I saw a bit on the company this morning that they are moving into AI territory now. I don't understand keeping the name when they are going in a totally different direction. Just commenting...

I like my two pairs of theur shoes -- very comfy, good quality.

Just be careful if you order for Auto Delivery or Advance Order.  Given the bankruptcy limbo, you don't want to pay for anything before it ships.  If you do, and Chapter 11 progresses to regular bankruptcy, you could be left holding the bag.

Having said that, I think QVC's usual practice has been to bill its customer on shipment, even for auto deliveries.  So that's good.

@stellabystarlight    With all due respect, prices  are not coming down, on anything.  anywhere, anyplace.  That is just a fact of life,
