Re: Cars are for boys? Really?

Maybe she meant to say her parents did not buy her tracks because she was a girl. It was just a fact from her past. I don't see anything wrong with that.

As a matter of fact, I didn't have any car toys when I was little. Does it mean, I personally think that cars are for boys only? Of course not. I am just stating the fact...

Given some of the mindsets prevalent on these boards, one would surmise they think they're 'in touch' with their customers... when really, they aren't.

Where Pat is concerned, I tend to agree, TK. At the time she was growing up, it probably wasn't all that common for girls to routinely get Hot Wheels... Still, her experience wasn't universal and, more to the point, times have changed and maybe some passing reference to that would've been nice. Still, I like Pat and think she was just speaking from her experience.

Re: Cars are for boys? Really?

I think kids should be allowed to play with the kinds of toys they enjoy... no "gender specific" toys. My DS would never admit it to anyone now, but one of his favorite things when he was little was a Wonder Woman action figure (along with GI Joe, etc.)! I think he was a little ahead of the curve in his attraction to good looking women! {#emotions_dlg.w00t}

Cutting out paper dolls and making dresses for them was the closest I ever got to playing with a doll. Didn't like them, didn't want one, and thank goodness my Mom never got me one! I don't remember the specific toys I liked, I mainly remember playing outside most of the time, climbing trees, playing marbles in the dirt, kick the can at night in the front yard where the streetlight was, and going to my Grandma's in Virginia and getting chased up apple trees in the pasture by a cow! I may have played with cars, I can't remember. But I do remember my brother, who is 7 years older, was always into cars, which is probably the reason I've been a car nut all my life! Sharp looking "muscle" cars back in the day, morphed into a red sports car in my "old age"!{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I didn't have any cars or trucks either, my parents would not have thought to even consider it. Don't be so hard on the hosts, I haven't seen one boy holding a doll they have sold. ----- That didn't stop me working in a very non traditional job for women!

And isn't that car and track system another example of cheesy gifts from the Q?

Actually, no. I gave that as a gift a couple of years ago, and the men present were as interested as the young boy for whom I purchased it. One even wanted me to e-mail him the information so he could order a set. It's a cute, well-made toy.

Actually, to me, the operative words are 'a couple of years ago'...

Do they ever offer anything fresh at Christmas time? For as long as I can remember it's been pretty much the same array of stuff. Cute, fun, well-made, cheesy or just plain junk, it's past time for a facelift...

Re: Cars are for boys? Really?

oh, pulease, let's not get into politically correct posts, and finding slights where none were intended. There are gender differences, whether you want to believe it or not.

And that comment from brewhaha was totally out of line.
