He sold the business at right time just when collectible industry was about to tank. Made a good decision! I liked going to Boyd’s Country in Gettysburg PA, made a nice day trip. I donated all of my collection including all of my collectible dolls. I enjoyed them while I had them and not sorry to have offloaded them.

I do not have very many, but the Boyd's Bears I do have are all seasonal.  My grands love them because they can touch and play with them.  I always loved the bears that were dressed as other animals or pumpkins, or fruits or Christmas trees, etc.

I put them out under the Christmas tree or with my Fall decorations.  That way they pretty much leave the other decorations that are not to be touched alone.😉😉

@violann Gary no longer appeared on QVC when he did something offensive.  I remember this because I saw that incident and thought "Oh boy, is he in trouble".   I do believe the new spokesperson for Boyds was a woman.

This is my recollection also. He finally crossed over the line and was off the air after that.

Boyds Bears, near Gettysburg

@Kindaglitzy mentioned this place in her post ...

(Gettysburg PA)

The barn and acreage sold last Aug. for $2.1 million.   Years ago, the town wanted this to be a casino, but the local residents were against it.  Civil War enactments were also demonstrated in the back of this building.

I recently drove by the building (closed in 2011)...always visited this place with my mother whenever the Longaberger family and weavers had their annual basket event.  Sadly, the grass/hay surrounding this building was 2 ft high and a large chain was across the driveway.  I only knew of one other BB barn which was in PIgeon Forge.  Gary L. was living in Gettysburg, but unknown if he is still "here."   @Spookyoleme

My wife and I LOVED the boyds mini-series shows with Gary and Mary Beth!  Those were the good old qvc days!

For a while after he sold the company, Gary was teaching business at Gettysburg College in PA - but he may have retired.

I live near Gettysburg and remember that when Gary opened the huge barn, busloads of Boyd's lovers from all over would arrive, spend the day, and shop. It was amazing to see the crowds!

@Jake1316

How nice that you and your wife shared your love of these sweet bears.

I have a few of those from Halloween and they still make me laugh when I look at them.

Their faces were always so precious.

I miss those days of QVC!

Was that the "hot dog" incident?  It's the only one I remember and it was hilarious, though MaryBeth was mortified.

Boyds Bears gave me my start into bear collecting. I moved from Boyd's to high end manufactured bears like Herman and Merrythought to artist bears to antique teddy bears. Still have several of my favorite one-of-a-kind artist bears and antique teddies. All Boyd's, manufactured bears and most artist bears have been rehomed on eBay years ago. My kids can sell the rest when I'm pushing up daisies. I really enjoyed collecting them for 25 years. Sad that collectibles are a thing of the past. Younger people seem so focused on entertainment these days. Now if anyone's interested in my mother's Lladro collection.......
