Patbz, same here.  We buy our large electronics from Sam's Club, get the extended warrenty for a few bucks and if there's a problem return the item.  We had a large TV stop working after 4 yrs.  We returned it to Sam's and got a new TV of equal value.  How terrific is that?

Spurt:  Wow, thank you SO much!  Now I wish I hadn't purchased a new LED TV today.  I didn't realize this was a common problem with LED tv's.  Bummer!  What's a person to do nowadays?

They say an Oled TV is better.....lifespan is 100,000 hours....and Samsung went with a QLED TV...(no reviews yet)

I do not and  will not buy electronics from a shopping channel.  Often they have products that are not being made anymore.  They get the 'end of the line.'  And buying in a store has the advantage of you actually touching it, seeing it, and asking questions.

In general the new stuff is not like the old stuff.  My parents had kitchen appliances that lasted 40 years.  Mine is hardly making it 5-7.

As for the warranty....get the longest one you can.  And I ALWAYS RESEARCH WHAT I BUY AND THAT INCLUDES REVIEWS.

My big screen, HD rear projection behemoth will not be moving with me. It's a Toshiba, and it is at least 14 years old- maybe more.

LED tvs don't last long. I had a 21 inch one that died after 3 years. My old box non LED 13 inch tv Toshiba lasted at least 10 years. If you have a small 13 inch box tv like what you would have in the kitchen or bedroom, keep it and don't toss it until it does not work. We have a small Westinghouse tv that is still going strong. And the picture is fine. I hate how LED tvs are crappy if you are watching them from an angle as the picture is dark.
