Just happened across this (2 year old) N.Y. Times article about how the Q works, and also the recent years' focus on growing Q.com sales...which I can see why and how they've managed to apparently do so successfully.

For all the groaning that sometimes goes on here, (myself included), as to how it's affected the "folksy" programming (their words), that we've all come to know...you certainly can see why now all the mention of Facebook (ad nasuseum), and mention to shop your mobile phones, every 5 minutes etc. Also, with all that talk in hosts' and guests ears, it's so wonder they can do the jobs they do, with such minute by minute sales push and direction. Makes ya think twice too about those overused sales pitches, you just KNOW mgmt. is making them say every other minute...we criticize, but these hosts really have no choice. ...LOL, cuz otherwise, when their job's "gone it's gone!!"
I knew this went on, but interesting nonetheless to read how it works behind the scenes.
