fashions overwhelm her. I can see where the Q would get alot of fashion returns simply because they don't show the fashions on women of different heights and body types. I agree that the Q will never go that route though, the designers would not allow it. If you notice yesterday for the TSV and all those IM shows, the petite model was rarely referred to even though she looked darling in most of the fashions. They mostly focused on Jacque and that model Caressa who does look terrific in everything.
I don't think that the clothing designers on the Q really have that much say because the Q owns most of those clothing lines shown and they are, in a sense, employees of the Q. Mizrahi and Basso may still have their couture lines and Silver may have his store and Goldstein may still do outside styling work, but Graver, Denim & Co., Quacker Factory, LOGO, and H by Halston are all basically in-house Q brands.
A good guide to how things are going to fit someone who has an actual pair of hips is to watch to see if Jane or Shawn button down or zip up whatever top/cardigan/jacket/coat they are trying to sell. Often times what fits them in the shoulders clearly does not fit them across the hips, so they'll leave the item open or only buttoned/snapped midway.

The average woman is something like 5'4" and ? size 14, so they don't represent their customers very often. I will not buy outerwear or pants unless they're petite because I'm not going to spend money tailoring them. Also, even if I take the sleeves up often the area around the shoulders is too baggy and the seam where the arm meets the shoulder is not in the right place. The coat would have to literally be taken apart and put back together to get a petite fit. I'm not sure whether they can even tailor the shoulder area of the garment in that way. Then you still have the bodice area that's the wrong size, so it's really a lost cause.
I see the problem, but my mother was right: everyone neds a tailor. I wear a minimizer bra but am still paranoid about tops that are tight in that area. By the time I get tops that fit me there, I have often have to have the garment tailored to take in the body a bit or to pull in the shoulders. Often I have had to have QVC sleeves shortened because many run long on me. Capris from QVC usually have a rise that is too long, so those go to the tailor, as well. I don't know how to get along without one!

As a 3X woman, I do not enjoy seeing clothing modeled on 3X models, either on QVC or in a catalog. I also don't like seeing size 10 models in a Plus Size catalog.
Few large-sized women (or any-sized woman) are in good/excellent proportion. The models are, for the most part, but I don't think the average woman is. So, whatever the size of the model, it isn't going to mirror *me.*
I have never felt, even when I wore a size 12, that looking at others would give me an accurate idea of what an item would look like on me. Even at that size I was never an off-the-rack person.
My eyes and common sense tell me what is a no-no for the way I want to look. How will it look on me? The way it will look on most average women my size. I hold no illusions that something will be truly flattering as to fit in the same way a tailored size M might be. And if I can't zip it or button it without looking like a lumpy sausage, I do not even contemplate buying.
