I used to be a nurse.  I worked every other weekend and holidays.  I received 2 weeks vacation.  No negotiations, take it or leave it.  If I wanted to take vacation or attend a wedding or special even on my weekend to work, I had to find coverage.  I didn't get that weekend off per say because it had to be made up.  For death in the family, 3 days.  I think I got 7 sick days, but to be honest, I think 7 is too much.  And there is no way I'd be able to leave my position like Kirsten did.  I'd be shown the door.

Yes, we should all suffer because you suffered.

She's going on a 3 day weekend trip which might be her 3 days off anyway. Vacation time is earned and much needed when you work hard and sometimes it seems people begrudge you for taking it.

I agree that it really isn't my concern as to when or how many vacations one of the hosts take each year, or where they go. I was self employed for over 20 years so I really had no paid vacation time, I guess I drew the paycheck but it came from me so ?????  And now I'm salaried and have unlimited vacation time but probably take no more than 3 or 4 weeks total per year, but am 'on call' should the need arise and I respond to emails, phone calls and anything else that comes up when I am 'off'. We had special internet connections and signal extenders added to our motorhome so that I was in touch no matter where we were.

@ScrapHappy I agree, when I was hired it was the same way, if we were closed on weekends that was great, but for vacations it was 2 weeks paid for the first 5 years then we earned an additional day each year. We had no sick day policy, it we were sick we were paid within reason. No negotiationing needed, that was the policy.

It would have been foolish if Kirsten did not take her leave w/o the assurance of her position on return. However, it would also be foolish to take off when the company is in lay-off mode.

I could care less how many vacations hosts take. And I enjoy them telling all about it as much as I do seeing one's scenic photos of their vacations.

The QVC hosts do not owe anyone an explanation of how many vacation days they have. What's next should the hosts have to disclose their salary? What about why they are taking sick leave? Not long ago several posters stated that the hosts as well as the models should be made to give out their measurements when showing clothing items.  To me this is just another exampe of viewers who do not see the hosts as employees but family members who should be comfortable sharing their business with other family members or friends. Why anyone would want to know any of the hosts's personal business is beyond me.

Well, if I'm a Qurate shareholder it is most definitely my business.

Accrual of the paid vacation days expense reported on financial disclosures is of great interest to me.

I strongly disagree.

Very few shareholders would like to be treated the way corporations treat employees these days.

Having retired from a high level position at a huge corporation, I'm angry. I have so many stories to i could tell. I took heat because I insisted on treating employees as dignified human beings. It's ridiculous and cruel what big corporations do to employees these days...and how it's spun. All in the name of greed.

Remember, you get the best from employees if they are treated with dignity, paid a decent wage, and not fed propaganda about why benefits are being cut and salary increases are given only to the treasured few.

My state just changed child labor laws this week. They now want to force kids to work jobs that conflict with their education and are way above a child's ability or comprehension skills.

Sorry for the rant. This is one topic that makes me a bit nutty.

Don't get it  that Hosts are now constantly  saying " I can't wait to start my vacation " .

Is that making customers feel more special that the Host  can't concentrate on giving us the info we need abt an item because they are so wanting not to be at work ??

Guess, the concept is  similiar to the wait staff at a restaurant who expect a 20% tip  no matter their performance in just dropping food off at a table.....

As far as SK going to DC, well that town's crime rate has risen to a level that most that I know don't go there anymore for sight seeing  or to restaurants . Car jackings galore .

Is it wrong for people to look forward to something fun? good grief.

When I retired, I had 71 days of PTO even though I took what I considered to be a lot of time off.  Luckily, I retired right before they stopped paying retirees for un-used PTO.

How many of you would work hard and let the corporation have their PTO back for free? Very very few. You'd complain from here to the moon and back.

Qurate appears to be exceptionally generous with its employee benefits.

Spending $24 million in severance and benefits on 400 laidoff employees is wonderful.

The sabbatical-leave policy also seems to be quite flexible and magnanimous.

Good for Qurate!
