It seems to me the prime goal of whichever party is out of power is to get power back... That's certainly nothing new and sort of a no-brainer...

The difference is it seems that in days gone by there was more of a willingness on both sides to forge ahead until those opportunities presented themselves, while today there's just more bluster, posturing and intransigence, again, on both sides.

Unlike some, I don't claim to be an expert on the basis and cause of this childishness... because I'd assess there are multiple reasons for it. Depending on one's belief system, some of those reasons are quite substantial and legitimate. Alternatively it's a rather sad statement that for some the only criteria is bias...

Regardless, disingenuous soul that I am, I see the utter unwillingness to compromise cutting both ways and emanating from both camps, no matter how much some might wish to espouse it as being unidirectional...

As a HATER of BOTH parties........I think those in the political field don't give a rats behind about their constituents....they are more concerned about filling their own bank accounts and furthering their own political careers and are beholding to whatever lobbyists helped to fill their pockets and to heck with the American People............meanwhile our country continues to go to hades in a hand basket and we have to rely on China for loans for our debt....its unreal.....{#emotions_dlg.angry} I wish I could go to Washington and utter these words to everyone there...YOUR FIRED!

Many on the boards engage in ongoing posts. If that necessarily implies needing to have the last word, it isn't precisely a club of one... Most of us express our thoughts in different ways at different times. Surely those so evolved in matters of social consciousness are willing to accept that people evolve. I make no bones about the fact that current 'leadership' was never my choice and still isn't, but I live in Washington DC and I'm fully fed up with the whole very real stalemate, the constant sniping and bickering, the inaction, and the low key but constant opposing 'gang' type skirmishes that seem to permeate politics these days, and it's crystal clear to me that it takes two to tango, or not to...

And there's the one who starts the dance.......

They have made this very clear from the beginning, as voiced by the man from Kentucky: "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President O to be a one-term president."

kmcn, for once, your new friend (and drinking buddy) and I agree. You do seem a lovely person, and I enjoy it when we 'meet-up' on other threads. I'm afraid though, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Politics is adversarial by nature. No party out of power has the goal of seeing the opposition re-elected... Think about it. I'd also note that if anyone can actually be said to have started the dance, there will always be different perspectives on precisely 'who started it', just as there will always be sprightly discussions about who it was that told the band to play faster...

Enjoy your weekend.

Yes, stevieb, I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I do agree with you somewhat on one point - there are always some people on both sides who have personal agendas which benefit only themselves, or they just don't want to cooperate for whatever reason. However, the ACA was passed, and the person who is responsible for it was re-elected after it was passed. If it and/or its originator was so hated by the general population, how did that happen? Now, since people understand it better, the polls are showing that more people approve of it than disapprove and that number is apparently growing.

Knowing this, and having spent the taxpayers' money to vote 51 times to repeal it without success, they are still talking about repealing it. That is typical of how this government has operated for the last 5 years - don't allow O to get credit for anything, don't pass jobs bills, don't pass infrastructure bills, etc. etc. and it doesn't matter if it hurts the people of this country or not...... Just spend some more taxpayer money to vote again and again to repeal something regardless of what the people think.

When polls show that the majority of Americans are in favor of something, (which by sheer numbers would have to include both parties), such as raising the minimum wage, why would lawmakers be so adamantly against it--when it would also help their own constituents?? This, in my most humble opinion, is one-sided obstruction.

And let me say that if people are going to disagree on a subject, it's a lot better to disagree with someone like you who is willing to have a reasonable discussion about it instead of ranting and raving as some do (on both sides)....{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

(BTW, I spent part of my growing up years and early adulthood living about 15 miles north of DC and still have relatives in the area. It has changed so much I don't even know where I am when I visit!)

Thanks kmNC, and back at you! Good conversation. And yes, DC is very, very different than it used to be. Sometimes I think I can't wait to get out of here. The cost of living is pretty startling and the traffic congestion alone is among the worst in the country, so it takes forever (and an iron constitution) to get just about anywhere! Still, it is a lovely city. I don't get into town often enough, which I suppose is the way it always is...

I remember the very first time I got a solicitation from AARP to join ..... I thought, hey, I'm not retired, WHY would I ever join?

Well, I continued to get solicitations ..... until I finally ripped up their letter, and sent it back in their postage paid envelope with a brief note: PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ME AGAIN .... I AM NOT RETIRED!!! {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

The mailings STOPPED. Shocking!

Well, today I got a notice from AOL telling me that one of my new "member benefits" is a FREE membership to AARP !!!

Maybe I'll join, since it's now FREE .........................
