My DD adopted a maltese X mix from the shelter.  She had just arrived from another shelter in Calif.  She looked skeletal and kept shaking her head and whinning.  DD took the dog to the vet and they saw foxtails in both her ears.  She had surgery to remove 7 or 8 foxtails.  The vet said they could have been fatal.  They work their way into the brain because they are so sharp.  Pup is now happy and healthy and put on weight.

A vet also warned me that fox tails can also travel to the heart.There are lots of fts in the empty lots growing.

@shortbreadlover

Geez, I'm sorry your dog had to have surgery.  I hope he's doing ok?

So, I just googled to see what these are & can't believe the damage they can cause.  I saw a couple pics - one with the fox tail travelling up the dog's leg & another one with an infection btw it's paw.

I just showed DH about it & to be careful with our dog.
