@Keeper of the koi   Praise God and St Francis for all of the prayers answered.  I am so relieved for you Maryanne and am happy Riley is doing well and your beloved Edward is coming home.  Watch Ed's pneumonia - it's a trickey condition to cure with take home antibiotics.

One of the birds I live with is a pigeon, who cannot fly.  Because it bothers me that I was not able to return him to the wild after I healed his injuries, I often supervise social interaction with him and his kind (other pigeons I feed).  He does not party with his peeps on the patio without his Mama there, rofl.

Anyway, the point of the story. Almost 2 summers ago, he caught something called a pigeon fly.  My journey with these birds is a lifelong education, I'm telling you :-)

I thought I saw something in his feathers.  It was there than wasn't and I thought I was losing my mind.  Because avian vets won't treat my sparrows or pigeon, I hit the internet and checked out racing pigeons sites and wildlife rehabber sites.  I had an idea what type of treatment I would need - you have to be so careful with dosage as it's essentially toxic.  I saw the bug again and it slipped into his feathers.  I noticed Grayson seemed kinda tired and his little legs and feet looked anemic looking - not deep pink.

I ordered the treatment, mixed the solution, put my own hand in it to see if it stung or pinched.  I then filled a spray bottle and treated Grayson, and all his areas where he hangs out.

It was war between me and that pigeon fly.  A couple of days after the treatment it jumped off Grayson and onto a cream colored wall.  I kicked my shoe off and nearly put a hole in my wall.  That bug died the hard way - it was hard shelled like a tick, not a fly.  I beat the hel*  out of that thing, put it's dead body on a white paper towel, took a picture and posted in my Birds Nest thread in Among friends.

My Grayson recovered, we've never had another incident.  Ticks and bugs like it are no joke :-(

So happy to hear the good news about Riley and it sounds like your husband will be home soon too.  I truly believe that our prayers were answered and I thank you for letting us know that you needed prayers and that you are able to give us the update on how he will be back good as new.  What a stressful time for you to go through with both "loves" in hospitals overnight.  Take care of yourself.

@Keeper of the koi

Are both your guys feeling better?  Was your DH able to come home yesterday?  And is your Riley coming home today?  Hope you are well, too.
