Re: That Schmoo, he is one tough kitty fighter -- 2.0

@Sammycat1 , I feel your nervousness amid your need to find the very best care for Frankie ladybug.  All of this has to be very trying, and a lot of questions in your mind, and heart.

She is beautiful, and her tough demeanor reminds me of you so much. You all remain in my prayers, and as we all know,

This family can do hard things. Heart

Sending hope, light, and love across the miles. The greatest of these is Love.

Re: That Schmoo, he is one tough kitty fighter -- 2.0

Sunday report:  Greetings from a warm, blustery Schmooville.

@Tissyanne  Thanks as always for your loving, comforting words. You always fulfill your role as Frankie's (and Frankie's family's) fan club president. We will have to be tough!

Just the arrangements between the referral hospital and her Most Excellent Vet are taxing ... similar to that of human medicine. We have to get X-rays taken a certain way, with a written radiologist's report, and blood work done a certain way ... blah blah blah.

Either that, and we pay an arm and a leg at the referral hospital for the same tests. It will already cost an arm and a leg for this treatment--which we're happy to pay--but we're trying to avoid pesky "add-ons," if you know what I mean.

Frankie is blissfully unaware of it all, as she should be, and looks positively royal in this photo I took recently:

@Sammycat1 I hope you and the crew had a nice weekend.

I know how difficult all the appointments and decsions are, but not a stronger team to make them, you and DH "Got This" as always.  And lots of prayers and support with you.

Take good care

@sammycat..my thoughts are with your sweet family. My prayers are everything is ok as possible for each of you. My concern level is high, when we haven't had an update in a couple of days. Sweet Frankie and crew, my thoughts are with you always.

Check-in:  Hi friends.

I've returned to battlefield work on a small scale, and my back is fighting me.

Tomorrow is Frankie's final checkup with her Most Excellent Vet before she sees the specialist for consultation on the radioactive iodine treatment on the 30th. We have to do an intricate panel of diagnostics tomorrow. I'll update you.

Today, also, is somber because it's the 11th anniversary of the loss of our beloved, irascible, funky, fighter kitty Mr. Schmoo. It still hurts deeply.

Anniversary dates of pets passings are hard, yet another reminder of how these precious creatures can change our lives & hearts~ @Sammycat1

I remember our friend Beastie would always 'light a candle' when a poster had a difficult day of remembrance.

@Sammycat1

It's so hard to believe that it's been that many years of the loss of Mr Schmoo. Mr Schmoo is the reason I became a poster and not a lurker. For that reason I want to especially thank him for bringing all of us together in the Schmoo family. What a source of comfort, laughter, tears, and friendship you all have been for me.

Thank you Mr Schmoo 🩷

Re: That Schmoo, he is one tough kitty fighter -- 2.0

Emergency report:  Greetings to all Schmoosters.

Thank you for your lovely words about the loss of Schmoo. You have all been through it before, many of you like us with intensive care hospice situations for years that ended, as they all do, on a dime. Your posts were comforting and I'm glad you're here.

Frankie this morning hit the wall. Her back legs were staggering, she wanted to eat and drink but couldn't. Her heart and breathing She wasn't in pain, but was obviously not right in a big way. Yesterday at her blood work and tests--which stressed her heavily, esp. her heart--ketones showed up in her urine--never good, a harbinger of this morning.

We gave her Karo syrup on her gums, DH brought shallow bowls of water to her lips and I fed her by syringe. She was breathing fast so she got more heart medicine.  She rallied a little and began to walk normally--even up the stairs. I texted her vet at 630 am. By 7, he replied--asking me to check if her toes were warm (blood clot from heart disease if cold) and they were good.

He threw some clothes on and ran over to the animal hospital to see her blood work results--and her liver enzymes more than doubled, likely the result of her increased thyroid medication. So he pulled her off of that, gave other instructions and said he'd check back in mid-afternoon. He didn't think we needed to run her to an ER, which is a long ride away and could stress her heart out too much again. She still may need to go to the ER this afternoon.

So here we are, a broken record, asking for your prayers. She may need to be hospitalized tomorrow, if not today.
