I have GSD's and prefer stainless steel bowls( that have a lip or edge around the top) or ceramic. I also have found that a microfiber dish drying mat (Campenelli or Don Astlet) works great for the dribbles from the dogs drinking.
I have also used a few of the Temptations casserole dishes or holiday shaped items as drinking bowls. The dogs see to like the odd shapes. this might work for your little one as well.
