Just curious about what you do for your pet, cat or dog, if they've been bitten by a wasp or similar insect?
Last summer, Ruby managed to paw a hornet down and was nearly stung. Should Benadryl be used?
Im sure there's a lot of pet owners who may be interested.
Thanks💝🌸

My late sister's cocker spaniel was bit by one years ago. Rosie's foot swelled up and her tongue did too. Off to the vet. Part of the stinger was still in her paw and she had a bad reaction.
The vet gave her a shot of ?
Benadryl- My vet here gave me a list of various antihistamines and the amount to give according to the size and weight of pets.
Last week I was stung by a hornet and the pain was horrendous, I was stung on the palm of my hand.
I took one Benadryl and it helped and my weight is 150. I suggest contacting your vet and ask.

Oh I'm so sorry you were stung! I don't recall ever being stung by a hornet, but I imagine it would hurt and make you sick in general.💝
We only have one vet and he's not nearby. It's at least 20 miles to get to him. This always keeps me incredibly scared should anything dire happen to Ruby.
I know he told us once before to make sure we only gave her half a Benadryl, but that was for a different condition.

For any type of insect bite, people or pet, I give :
Works every time. Of course if the pet is not breathing, seek emergency care. My dog can't take Benadryl. It makes him pant hard. Our vet (holistic) told us to avoid it for him.

I was stung by a hornet last summer on my toe and it hurt like crazy--haven't been stung in at least 40 years---those nasty critters made a nest in the cracks in the top of my covered balcony to my apt. and then, as it got colder, they managed to fill my outside light globe almost to the top to stay warm at night, but couldn't get out---there must have been at least 200 of them in that thing---all dead---have heard they don't come back to the same nest again but will see.

My golden got stung somewhere on her head last year. Her entire head and ears swelled up, eyes couldn't open and ear flaps looked like little pillows. Poor thing! I didn't know what happened at first so I called my handler and she came over to take a look. She said it was a wasp sting and to give her Benadryl until the swelling went down which took a couple of days.

I put it on the other thread (for humans) but this can help .... a paste of baking soda and water applied can reduce the itch and pain very well, but as it dries you have to apply more.
I doubt it could hurt any pet and doesn't require feeding them a pill.
I've never found a topical sting product that works better than just a plain old baking soda paste.

Take him/her to the vet immediately. The poison and allergic reaction is very dangerous. I was bitten by one a couple of months ago and even though I removed the thorn, the swelling and pain lasted for 7 weeks. I don't think your dog can be larger than a person. If this is done to a large adult, please see how bad it is for a cat or a dog.
On a side note, my vet advised once to give 1/2 Benadryl to my 14 lb Datschund because she was allergic to one of her vaccination shots (itchy in the area), but not related to a wasp sting.

One of the dogs we used to have stuck her nose through knot hole on fence board. She got stung by a bee. The vet told us to give her Benadryl.

Benadryl, but call your vet and make sure how much he needs, it would depend on his weight.
Ice packs for the swelling.......AND A BIG, FAT HUG!!
I think he needs a real special treat too!!
