At midnight this morning my Sweetheart passed away in my arms. I'm heartbroken and devastated.

My sweet old red haired pup was 14.

He started struggling to breathe and his heart was beating so very fast. It started around 4:30pm and our vet's office was closed as were the rest of them here.

He was extremely uncomfortable and couldn't stay still, lay down or have me hold him.

`I rescued him 13 1/2 years ago, he was near death at that time. He made it through with care and love and I know he never forgot it.

We were devoted to each other. He had a bed in each room so that he could lay down and wait for me to finish whatever I was doing.

Since I sold my car in December we would use a taxi for all our excursions, he went everywhere with me. He loved a sweater I have a  Barefoot Dreams and he had it with us for every outing.

Last Saturday we went to the groomers, he needed his nails clipped, I had given him a bath the night before and our groomer just needed to give him his hair trim and nails.

After grooming I put him in a buggy from the groomers, he sat in the child's seat on his sweater with a pink baby blanket over him.

'We then walked , I pushed the buggy to Trader Joe's and he selected what to buy. Everyone stopped to pet and talk to him. He was so very good, usually he would have an interaction with them, not this time, he just sat there and stared.
This should have been a warning that something was not right with him.

I had another pup many years who who behaved the same way, he had congestive heart failure, of course I was able to take him to the vet when it was time to say goodbye.

I won't write the agony my sweet red haired boy went through for hours before he crossed over.

I know without a doubt my dear sister and all our pups were waiting for him.

I knew this day was coming but I still wasn't prepared for it.

This is the first time I had a pup pass away at home in my arms. I would give everything if there had enough time to get to our vet so that he wouldn't have struggled and be in pain as he was. It was horrendous.

There was another poster who mentioned she prayed every night that she live at least one day longer than her pup. I did the same thing.

He was everything to me, my friend and family.

I loved him with all my heart and I know it was returned.

Too many postings such as this and too many broken hearts.

so very sorry for the loss of your sweet pup.   He's at peace now no more pain and waiting for you for the day you are reunited.   There is never enough time and we are never prepared even if we are told the end is  near .

So so sorry for your loss.  Even though we are strong we are never strong enough when this happens.  It seems you both loved each other to the ninth degree.  I'm sending you a big hug wrapped in angel wings.  Please take care and know that you are loved.
