I hope this doesn't seem too stupid, but I want to start marinading salmon, chicken, pork chops and beef this summer for quick cooking in the air fryer.
Since I cook for only two, me and my furbaby, and being not the biggest meat eater but he is, what kind of marinade can I use that will be safe for my furbaby?

I don't have any suggestions, but I would be very very careful with your fur baby and check with the vet first.

For Salmon (human consumption)....

Wow, @eddyandme I don't know what to suggest to you. I would be care of anything premade. There could be ingredients that you don't want him to have like chemicals and preservatives and they could be heavy in salt. I used to think garlic was okay until my Quincy got violently ill from it. Now I am leery of it. As far as asking a vet about anything nutrition wise, forget it. Even my two holistic vets told me that along with everything else they have to know, nutrition wasn't high on the list (I am talking advising on a homemade diet). That is why I was sent to a vet nutritionist for Willie's IBD. But I digress....a little salt and pepper would be okay, olive oil, kelp, rosemary, papaya, pineapple, fresh parsley, yogurt, to name a few and not necessarily all together LOL. Don't forget vegetables: and peas, to name a few.
I am not familiar with air frying, but it sounds as if it may eliminate any chance of the charring and overcooking that can happen with grilling and even stove top and oven cooking.
Have fun exploring this and let us know if you come up with a real Julia Child recipe.

I know, it's hard to know what to feed them!
I often add cumin, tumeric, cinnamon, and a dab of chili - spices I used for Jade when she got cancer, along with olive oil or coconut oil. But was trying to figure out a real marinade as opposed to just seasoning. Never bought prepared marinade. For me, would use pickle/pepper/olive juice and Worcestershire/Lea&Perrins. But, can't use that stuff for Eddy. Perhaps, will have to cook separately. But, the little runt, watches me and wants whatever I have! I'm really missing onions and garlic, etc. And cut down on chips big time: he sees me eating them, wants some, give him a couple and close the bad. Then, he sits there with the 'mommy I want more look' starring until I open the bag and give him a couple more. I know, I'm weak! I do try to be strong, but am a total wimp. Anyways, that's why was wondering what I could marinade with.
Thanks for your help. Oh, by the way, I questioned a vet re garlic in prepared sauce for Jade and he said not enough to harm her - would be fine. And, I know there are some food/recipe treats that contain garlic. Think they're not sure on that, but I try to avoid it.
Hi to Willy!

Thanx. Didn't think lemons were safe, but searched online and it said small amount okay. Also checked and cannot give balsamic vinegar, but little regular vinegar is all right So you just gave me an idea of perhaps adding dab or each to some oils and see if that will work as a marinate.
Thank you for your advice.

@eddyandme. At one point when Sadie was first diagnosed w/ Cushing, her appetite was insatiable. The vet suggested, to keep her weight down, to supplement her meals with plain cubes of cooked chicken....she was quite clear most seasonings could upset a dog's stomach.
The best idea may be to marinate your meal, but feed your fur baby an unseasoned portion.
I'm I'm guilty of putting human feelings on my beagles and sometimes wonder how they eat the same bagged dog food twice a day and still race to their dish. It's because they really don't care one way or the other as long as they're fed.
Back to you: Pinterest has great marinades and rubs for meats and poultry. Enjoy!

DejaVU!!!! On NPR this evening they do the cooking shows/test kitchen.
A gentleman was discussing marinading!
He tried beef, chicken and turkey that I heard. Marinated them for 18 hours. There was no extra flavor added. He said they debunked every thing.
Said it was better to add the seasoning at the end.
The interviewer was crushed as he loved marinading. It was a very interesting segment.
I do not know if this includes sou veed which I do not know how to spell. I think that is where they pull a vacuum on a bag.

I've found that when using the hand-vac container it really makes a difference in taste in quite a short time; done it also by using that 'needle' thing to make mini holes in the meat and marinating 24hrs in zip lock works too. Always found it does make a difference.
Cute story for proof: my cousin came up do to family funeral. Has a pub and chefs so he's used to eating very well. Therefore, was little nervous 'cause can't compete with a pro for sure! I had marinated a cheap steak, then pan fried it and was hoping it would at least be edible (I'm no Rachael Ray). Lo and behold, my prayers were answered! He raved about the steak as it was delicious and thought it was an awesome feat to panfry on an electric stove and have such a delicious steak! Then he asked me what I used to marinate 'cause it was sooo tasty! Believe me, marinating does make a difference!

Thanx, I'll check out Pintrest!
I must add though, my Eddy as well as my Jade, would never eat same food all the time be it kibble or chicken, whatever. I've always had to change it out!
